Featured Artist: ANTHONY NAÑOLA

Bridging the boundaries between nature, nostalgia, and futuristic imagination, Anthony Nañola brings his signature fusion of art, science, and whimsical pop sensibilities to Pop Culture & Its Modern Echoes.

Hailing from Lucban, Quezon, his creative journey is rooted in the lush landscapes of the Sierra Madre and the coastal waters of the Pacific, elements that continue to ground his playful exploration of modern themes. A BFA Advertising graduate from the Philippine Women’s University (1999), Nañola has spent decades pushing experimental boundaries across painting, sculpture, woodcarving, and mixed media.

In his featured work "How to be Human" (2026), he juxtaposes metallic, mechanical forms with the serene elegance of nature. Through vivid color schemes and inventive storytelling, his iconic robots and creatures reflect deep themes of family, childhood memories, and the emotional bridges between technology and human warmth.

🏆 A 2025 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) Sculpture Semi-Finalist, Nañola’s sought-after works continue to captivate collectors locally and internationally.

RAYMOND LOYOLA (b. 1987, Cardona, Rizal)
A self-taught visual artist with a background in drafting, Raymond Loyola transforms personal observation and imagination into vivid acrylic paintings. Drawing early inspiration from the scenic, organic landscapes of Talim Island, his fearless exploration of color, theme, and technique creates uplifting works that build a lasting artistic legacy.

HOMER "OWEY" RAMOS (b. 1986, Quezon City)
Working in the realm of pop surrealism, Homer "Owey" Ramos merges expressive brushwork with dreamlike, retro-pop compositions. At the heart of his storytelling is Tbok, a recurring character who serves as a gentle, relatable guide through universal emotions of struggle, healing, and connection. His vibrant palette invites viewers to look inward and honor their authentic journeys.

Blending a background in satirical cartoons with Korean painting, Han transforms the motif of the pig into a powerful sign of positivism, joy, and overcoming life's grayness. His lively works invite us to celebrate family, friends, and pure happiness!

LIN CHIEN / Joker (b. 1984, Taipei, Taiwan) 🇹🇼
Bridging mathematical logic, animation, and street culture, Joker creates playful, color-rich compositions. By incorporating Chinese characters into the eyes of his figures alongside everyday elements, he crafts a visual diary celebrating childhood memories, warmth, and shared identity.

KRING DUMALAG (b. 2000, North Cotabato)

Blending vibrant acrylics, thick textures, and whimsical storytelling . Her playful, anthropomorphic animals and everyday objects celebrate the extraordinary in the everyday, filling every piece with joy and wonder.

VALERIE TENG (b. 1977, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte)

Guided by nostalgia and a fascination with feng shui. Creator of the iconic Lucky Meow (inspired by the Maneki Neko), Teng transforms modern culture into a charming world filled with fortune, prosperity, and lighthearted storytelling.

KWON RYUWON (b. 1984, Seoul, South Korea)

Seamlessly merging commercial design background with traditional Korean folk art (minhwa) . Her stylish, human-like cat figures offer a humorous yet thoughtful commentary on modern society, delivering messages of good luck, warmth, and solidarity.

Join us at Kambal Gallery as we celebrate two visionary Filipino contemporary artists featured in POP CULTURE & ITS MODERN ECHOES, bridging engineering precision, nostalgic retro aesthetics, and modern internet culture!

BELL SISON (b. 1971, Quezon City) merges mechanical engineering precision with playful, emotionally resonant storytelling. Trained at De La Salle University, Sison transitioned from photography and furniture design to metal sculpture, where sustainability plays a central role. By reimagining upcycled and recycled industrial components into polished, chrome-plated forms, he crafts a distinct pop-conceptual aesthetic. He is best known for his charming, vibrant metallic figures of cats, dogs, sea creatures, and robots, creating approachable works where technology, imagination, and environmental consciousness seamlessly coexist.

VINCENT TRINIDAD (b. 1985, Marikina City) is an internationally recognized visual artist and illustrator whose work fuses Japonisme with nostalgic 1980s and early 1990s retro aesthetics. A Fine Arts Advertising graduate from Far Eastern University, Trinidad has created over 1,500 graphic designs and built a massive global presence across both art and commercial spheres. Widely recognized for creating the satirical character “Meowster, the Samurai Cat,” he explores contemporary internet culture and society’s fascination with cats through witty, incisive imagery. Named Artist of the Year by Pixel Empire in 2021, Trinidad’s work has been featured by global platforms like Threadless and Marshalls USA, and exhibited at major international events such as San Diego Comic Con, Singapore Comicon, MOCAF, and Xavier Art Fest.

🐶 HIRO (b. 1987, Saitama, Japan)
Meet Hiroki Ichikawa, the contemporary pet artist bringing pop-surreal colors and heartwarming storytelling to life! Guided by the philosophy that "differences are a unique beauty," Hiro paints animals not just as pets, but as vivid characters beaming with dignity, emotion, and presence.

🧩 LEI MANTO (b. 1983, Caloocan City)
Visual artist Leonardo “Lei” Manto II turns human emotion, memory, and identity into mesmerizing mixed-media masterpieces! Reflection and resilience sit at the core of his captivating practice. A Fine Arts Advertising graduate from UE Caloocan, Manto earned early acclaim as 2011 Artist of the Year and received the prestigious Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Performance in Visual Arts.

Inspired by a childhood fascination with jigsaw puzzles, he uses puzzle-piece motifs to symbolize fragmented identities, hidden feelings, and the beautiful journey of healing and self-discovery. Blending pop culture elements, surrealism, and sensitive social commentary, his paintings and sculptures strip away judgment to reveal the intimate, quiet tensions of the human spirit.

🖼️ CHARDO BAUTISTA
(b. 1992, Cavite)

Graduating with a degree in Visual Communication from Philippine Women’s University, Chardo Bautista’s artistic roots stem from a childhood love of anime and cartoons, evolving into a mastery of traditional painting and figure drawing. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Bautista leans into Pop Surrealism to construct dreamlike stories rooted in raw emotion.

His pieces frequently feature solitary figures—often children, who embody a pure, uncorrupted lens, and symbolic objects set against soft palettes and quiet compositions. Through themes of introspection, isolation, and quiet hope, his work invites viewers into a serene moment of deep connection.

👁️ JC CALILAO (JCAL)
(b. 1984, San Pedro, Laguna)

Known professionally as JCAL, JC Calilao is a Manila-based contemporary abstract artist whose practice is guided purely by intuition. Exploring emotion-driven visual expression through bold color palettes, dynamic forms, and striking contrast, JCAL embraces imperfection and ambiguity as a path toward artistic freedom.

A signature hallmark of his work is the frequent motif of eyes serving as symbols of awareness, connection, and unseen human emotion that act as quiet guardians watching over the spaces they inhabit. Moving beyond recognizable imagery, JCAL captures what words often fail to express.

Famous for her acclaimed series The Overthinkers, her works combine cognitive-inspired themes with vibrant, rich color palettes influenced by years spent in Singapore’s Peranakan district. Her art speaks to the quiet, complex beauty of the mind and shared human resilience.

🎨 PINTA DE BARYO
Hailing from Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Janley Cris Ronolo,known as Pinta De Baryo, brings the heart of community life to the canvas. Rooted in village stories, regional traditions, and daily Filipino resilience, his work uses energetic colors and delicate details to celebrate warmth, unity, and the enduring local spirit.
