Cholsey & Wallingford Railway Former GWR Branchline in South Oxfordshire running heritage steam and diesel trains. Known locally as "The Bunk", passenger services ceased in 1959.

Enjoy a five mile round trip on The Cholsey and Wallingford Railway - a preserved former Great Western Railway branchline in South Oxforshire. Our line links the national railway network at Cholsey, with the historic market town of Wallingford. Trains run on selected weekends and bank holidays throughout the year and, where available, are steam hauled. Having secured the line in 1981, the 100% vol

unteer run C&WR Preservation Society now aims to enhance the facilities that the railway offers and to improve our Wallingford site. The railway aims to offer steam hauled trains where possible, but also operates an interesting fleet of 08 class diesel locomotives.

🚂 WE’RE BACK — AND WE’RE FREE! 🎉
Following the successful completion overnight of repairs to the Wallingford Bypass Level Crossing by Network Rail, we’re delighted to be back in operation after two months of cancelled events!

To celebrate — and to thank all our customers for their patience while the crossing was closed — we’re offering FREE train rides for today only, Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August!

🚂 Trains depart Wallingford 12:00, 12:40 and 13:20
🚂 Trains depart Cholsey at 12:20, 13:00 and 13:40 (no return on last Cholsey Departure)

Why not come along, enjoy a free ride and help us celebrate getting back on track!

Travel to Cholsey by mainline train. Our departures from Cholsey are timed to connect conveniently with mainline arrivals on the Reading–Didcot route, making it easy to continue your journey to Wallingford by heritage train.

The BunkFest atmosphere starts before you even arrive! Musicians will be performing on most trains, with more live music at Wallingford Station.

Happy Fathers Day to all those amazing Fathers out there! It's not too late to treat your old Dad to a train ride through the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside in one of our Heritage Trains.
Our Cream Tea options have now sold out for today but we have plenty of spare seats available for travel only on our 11:00, 12:30, 14:00 and 15:30 departures from Wallingford and 11:30, 13:00 and 14:30 departures from Cholsey. Either book online below or come along to one of the stations.
