Catch up with the latest from Redline Home Guard!

It’s been a busy few weeks for the section, and we’ve got three new updates on the website:

• Promotion in the Ranks – recognising the commitment and contribution of one of our members with a well-deserved promotion.

• White Horse Military Show 2026 – our return to Talbot Square for another fantastic weekend, transforming our derelict house into a Home Guard HQ and helping defend the town against the threat of invasion!

• Browning vs Vickers – our latest training night took a detailed look at two iconic water-cooled machine guns, covering their history, development and operation before comparing the two side-by-side.

Three very different parts of Redline life – recognising our members, getting out into the field and continuing our training.

You can read all three of the latest posts on our website: http://www.the-red-line.co.uk

We will be at Gatehampton pillbox, on the banks of the Thames near Goring, Saturday 1st August from around 10:30am until 5:00pm, bringing this wartime site back to life.

The pillbox will be set up as it would have appeared during the Second World War, giving visitors a glimpse of how it may have been manned in readiness to defend the Thames Valley. We’ll also have a small Home Guard encampment, with period equipment on display, and our members will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and chat about the history of Britain’s wartime defences.

Whether you’re interested in military history, local heritage, or simply looking for something different to do today, come along and say hello. We’d love to see you!

Could you spot a well-camouflaged Home Guardsman?

This week, members of Redline Home Guard Living History Group headed to Howbery Park for an evening of Home Guard Camouflage training. Using original wartime manuals, we explored the art of concealment before putting our skills to the test in a series of practical hide-and-seek exercises. We even demonstrated just how effective a properly camouflaged Bren gun position could be compared with one left out in the open.

If you’d like to see our Home Guard equipment, uniforms and displays up close, why not come and visit us this weekend at the Woodcote Rally? We’ll have our full living history display on site throughout the weekend, with plenty to see and members on hand to answer your questions about Britain’s wartime Home Guard.

Whether you’re interested in military history or just fancy a great family day out, we’d love to see you there!

It’s been a busy few months for Redline Home Guard, and we’ve now added several new posts to the website covering recent training evenings, events and talks.

Thank you to everybody who continues to support the group, attend events and help keep this history alive.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Flora King following a short illness.

Flora, along with her husband Bill, were well known and much-valued friends of the Redline group. Flora was always a warm, kind and welcoming presence whenever we met. She will be fondly remembered by all of us.

Our thoughts are with Bill and all of Flora’s family at this very difficult time.
