NEW POST! 🥰 Continuing with my recent theme of UK-based ideas of what to get up to locally this year, here are my tips for things to do in Stockport. Good old Stockport is local to me and it's where I do a lot of my eating, drinking and shopping, so I know it pretty well.
If you’ve not heard of it before, Stockport is a historic market town just south of Manchester, England. In the 18th/19th centuries, it was a big deal in the region’s textile production and grew to be the capital of the UK’s hat-making industry. There’s even a hat museum there! 🎩🧢👒
Today, Stockport is often overshadowed by the popular city of Manchester being so close to it. But Stockport has seen a lot of regeneration lately. Every time I go in, there’s something new and interesting popping up. And it actually has some brilliant stuff going on, from excellent craft beer bars 🍻 to gorgeous and unusual shops as well as a brilliant market 🛍️ and a great foodie scene.🍕 Unfortunately, it also has a fairly run-down shopping area and a generic chain restaurant/cinema complex, so this can give a negative first impression. You have to dig a little further (or get some tips from a local blogger…😉) to find all the lovely hidden gems around the old town and historic market area. If you know where to go, you’ll see a much nicer and different side to it.
Anyway, if you fancy a visit, I've listed some of my favourite things to do, see, and (of course) eat and drink there. Please give it a share if you enjoy the post! And as ever, I'm tagging anything mentioned below.
📸 This I'm celebrating the incredible places to see across Stockport and Tameside.
After the year we've had it's more important than ever that we get out there and support our tourism and heritage industry.
From Hat Works Museum and Reddish Vale Country Park to St Lawrence Church and Portland Basin, both Stockport and Tameside has something for everybody 🙌
A big thank you to Hat Works Museum for alerting me to the fact that today is !
After slaving over a (VERY) hot laptop yesterday, I finally uploaded the almost 300 images for my new sun hat range....so here are a few choice pics for your delectation! 😍
These hats are now available to buy online - simply choose the colour hat you want, then choose your extra decorations for your own personalised design! 🎀💐👒
Would this be of interest to the museum . I have it for sale but cannot find another anywhere.

Stockport Council Hat Works Museum
Hello Hat Works.
Sorry that you are closed, but inevitable i guess. My local museums are also closed here in Suffolk.
I have a question.
I've been researching my family history and it appears that my Great Great Great grandfather may have worked at Christys both in London and Stockport in the late 1800's.
Does the museum have any employment records from that time?
If you have them, he was Henry Durrant and lived at 5 Arden Street, in 1881. He was a Warehouseman (Hatter).
Many thanks.
