It's great to see 👀so many submissions coming through online from Visual Artists, Crafters, Photographers , Musicians, Textile Artists and more! 🎨

We wanted to remind you that we are also looking for work from Stockport's young artists aged 6 and upwards! 🖼️

Artists aged between 17 - 25 will automatically be entered into the Michael Hartley-Rose Award category which is a prize sponsored by Stockport Art Guild.

So get your pens, pencils, paint and paper at the ready and show us what you can do! ✏️

Entry into this year's Stockport Open Exhibition is FREE for all.

Did you know that Thursday is your opportunity to brush up on your Still Life drawing skills ahead of the Stockport Open Exhibition, as we open our doors from 1pm and and invite visitors to our Mindful Still Life drawing sessions, which are completely free of charge to attend.

The Art Gallery supplies basic materials of pencils and paper, but feel feel free to bring your own equipment if you wish 🎨

Visitors are encouraged to arrange the Still Life items to their liking, and even bring things along to draw too.

Fantastic FREE Talk from Stockport Photographic Society on Sunday 24th May, 1pm - 3pm 📸

This final talk of the series, which accompanies the Stockport Photographic Society 134th Annual Exhibition, is an exploration of the differences and boundaries between art and photography as well as looking at the impact of Al on both genre.

Building on an inspiring collaborations between Stockport Art Guild and Stockport Photographic Society, this engaging presentation will explore the shared ground and unique qualities of Art and Photography. Are they truly different, or more alike than we think?

The second part of the presentation will provide and brief description of Al and will go on to discuss the impact of Al on Art and Photography, including an interactive demonstration of Al for making images, as well as discussing, who owns the intellectual property rights and the ethics and boundaries associated with AI.

Refreshments will be available to purchase.

Have you been to see the Stockport Photographic Society's (SPS) Annual Exhibition yet? If you also enjoy taking photos, it's not too late to sign up to the SPS Guided Photo walk on Sunday 17th May at 1pm.

You'll meet at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery for refreshments before you embark on tour of the Town Centre in groups with members of SPS as your guide.

You'll return to the gallery for 2pm to review your photos and share your favourites!

🎨We're so happy to be working alongside Trafford and Stockport College to bring you 2 new Adult's art workshops this Spring/Summer!

Abstracting from Still Life
Thursday 21st May
2-4pm

This session explores the journey from observation to abstraction. Working from a still life or an object from the gallery collection, you’ll use charcoal, paint, and collage to simplify, transform, and reinterpret what you see, developing a semi-abstract artwork that emphasises expressive mark-making and form.

Abstracting the Landscape
Thursday 4th June
2-4pm

This session focuses on simplifying shapes, colours and textures to create expressive work that is inspired by the landscape. It builds on ideas from the first session but can also be taken on its own, with guidance provided throughout. The focus is on responding to place rather than creating a detailed or realistic image.

Both sessions are delivered by local artist Nancy Collantine.

Each 2 hour session costs £9.

If you're in receipt of benefits or have an annual income below £25,750 (proof required), then both these courses FREE.

Participants can enrol on one or both sessions.

Learners must be age 19+ and eligible to study in the UK.

All participants will be required to complete an enrolment form at the start of each session.

We had 2 events taking place: A Talk on Wildlife Photography by Ove and Terry from Stockport Photographic Society 📸

A Talk on the artist Magritte by Ed Glinert, hosted by Stockport Art Guild 🎨

Some visitors even stayed for both talks! 🙌

We are thrilled to announce that Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery will once again be hosting the Stockport Open Exhibition this year! It's wonderful to see last year's Winners ('Sad Child' by Shirin Adult's Winner and 'Pickle' by Evie Dobson, Children's Winner) on our flyer promoting this highly anticipated exhibition!
