We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the much loved D.Day veteran Alec Penstone - Seen here with our chairman Brian Harris when Alec gave a talk for the museum a few years back.
Alec was born in Tottenham, London on the 23rd April 1925 and sadly passed away on the Island on 28th May 2026 at the age of 101.
Alec was 15 when WWII broke out and volunteered part time in the air raid precautions messenger service throughout 1940 and 1941, before joining the Royal Navy in 1943.
Alec served as a submarine detector aboard HMS Campania and helped to stop U-boats during D.Day.
On the 21st July 1945 Alec married his beautiful wife Gladys and they were married for 75 years πŸ©·πŸ’™
Alec continued in service in the Far East until his demobilisation in 1946.
We extend sincere condolences to his family, his friends and comrades in the Royal Navy Association and the wider armed forces.
REST IN PEACE ALEC πŸ’™ A TRUE LEGEND and HERO - We Salute You Fine Sir x
