We are pleased to announce all six of our museums have been awarded full accreditation from the UK Museum Accreditation Scheme, run by Arts Council England.

Every year thousands of people visit the city's museums, and accreditation shows that the collections people experience are of the very highest standards.

Five out of six of our museums are free to visit - Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, Southsea Castle, Portsmouth Natural History Museum, Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum and Eastney Engine Houses, with The D-Day Story the only one with an entrance fee.

Our Portsmouth museums will be celebrating Portsmouth100, marking the centenary with a special exhibition 'Your Museum. Your Stories. Your City' at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery in October.

"We need markets to get out, and market traders are really helpful people!" (quote from a Cosham market user).

We had a fantastic day yesterday in Cosham for "Love your Market" week together in collaboration with Portsmouth Markets, sharing memories with users and visitors about Charlotte Street and discussing with traders and high street shop owners.

Join us on our next "Market Memories" day this Thursday 21st May in Commercial Road, between 9 and 4. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

This week, we are proud to be part of the fantastic “Love your Market” campaign together with Portsmouth Markets: Visit us in Cosham Market today and Commercial Road Market this Thursday to share your memories and anecdotes as market users and traders. Take a trip down memory lane as we will display historic photos of Charlotte Street Market.

We can’t wait to hear your stories — they could become part of our major exhibition, Your Museum, Your Stories, Your City, opening in October 2026. Help us bring Portsmouth’s past to life by sharing the market memories that matter to you!
