NEWLY ADDED TO THE COLLECTION Timothy Harris Special 'Flowers' vase probably made in 1994, but unsigned and undated (the museum has another vase of this same colourway dated 1994). It stands about 13 cm high. 'Flowers' was a trial range produced by Timothy Harris and Carl Nordbruch of which 15 pieces are known, including 13 vases and 2 perfume bottles. The museum now has five of them in the collection. All the pieces were of a different shape and size, but all have the characteristically shaped flowers. 'Flowers' proved too time consuming to make to be commercial, which explains why only a few examples are known.

RARE FLOWER GARDEN MIXED COLOURWAY The museum bought this footed vase for the collection at a local auction. It is very unusual because it's a mixture of the Larkspur and Lavender colourways. We have not seen another like it. Tim Harris of Isle of Wight Studio Glass suggests it was an end-of-day piece when leftover colour chips were combined. The vase measures 14 cm and 10.2 cm across the rim.

RIBBED BOWL, POSSIBLY BY RUDOLF JURNIKL for Sklo Union in the 1970s will soon be available in the museum shop. It's in excellent condition. The bowl is a clever design. It has a star-shaped outline with curved ribs underneath. The top is completely flat; it's just an optical illusion that makes it appear ribbed. The bowl stands on the ribs. It is 20 cm across, 5 cm high, and really heavy at about 1.3 kg.

NEW TO THE MUSEUM COLLECTION is an Etling table lamp designed by Lucille Sevin in the late 1920s. It has the original light fittings and metal stand; the shade is modern. One light bulb points down into the base and four other bulbs are located under the shade. This design is number 7 in the Choisy-le-roi catalogue and is signed Sevin in the mould.

CLAIRE RAINBOW MAKING GLASS IN 1981 in the workshop of Isle of Wight Studio glass. The museum bought this diapositive projector slide when it appeared on eBay last week. It was labelled "Glass blowing Ventnor IOW '81". Tim and Elizabeth Harris both identified the person shown as Claire Rainbow, the designer of the Iris and Orchid ranges in the early 1980s. This slide is interesting because it shows what the studio workshop looked like at the time. None of us know what happened to Claire after she left the Island. Can anyone enlighten us?

EXHIBITION DISPLAY REORGANISATION WAS COMPLETED this weekend in preparation for the 10th anniversary celebrations at the end of March 2026. It took weeks of hard work by the team, but Peter should get a special mention for his dedication. About 2000 pieces were removed from the display cabinets and storage racks and put back in more or less chronological order to tell the story of glass making on the Isle of Wight and other related makers since the late 1960s. We look forward to seeing you during the weekend of 28-29 March. The special talk on the museum's history will be given both days at 2 pm.
