It suddenly felt very quiet at the Museum yesterday.

After a busy summer of visitors, family activities and workshops, we couldn't help but notice how long the shadows had become whilst closing the Museum for the day, stretching across the garden and up the old brick walls.

Maybe it's the cooler evenings, or perhaps it's just the light, but it suddenly felt like autumn was on its way. 🍂

The garden is still looking beautiful though, and we're not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet. Although, after five heatwaves, a drought and torrential rain, it's been a fairly meteorologically ridiculous summer, so perhaps we're ready for a change! 🌿🍂

Good luck to everyone heading back to school this week, whether you're putting on a uniform, welcoming a new class or standing at the school gate waving one off! 📚❤️

We've had lots of lovely visitors through our doors today, including some discovering the Museum for the first time and others exploring their own family history and connections to the framework knitting industry. 🧶

We've had people exploring the cottages, enjoying a coffee in the garden and, of course, getting arty in the Chapel at our Bank Holiday Badge Painting workshop! 🎨
..Some visitors were definitely more camera-ready than others! 😂

Thank you to everyone who spent their Bank Holiday with us. It was lovely to see the Museum so full of life and we hope you enjoyed your day!

How is it the LAST Friday of the summer holidays already?! 😭☀️

If you’re not quite ready for summer to be over yet, we’ve still got the Bank Holiday weekend to squeeze a little more out of it!

We’ll be open as usual on Bank Holiday Monday, along with Parkers Yard Café, and we’ve got one final summer holiday activity happening in the Museum too. 🎨

Our Badge Painting Workshop will be running from 11am-3pm in the Chapel Gallery. Come along and design your own wooden badge, inspired by something you’ve loved, seen or done this summer, then wear your little piece of summer home with you. ☀️🌊🍦✈️

It’s £2 per badge, there’s no need to book, just drop in and get painting!

There were a LOT of fairies in the Museum today! 🧚‍♀️🧚

Fairy Sophie and Fairy Sarah had so much fun leading our Elf & Fairy Pegdoll Workshop, where our wonderful participants created their very own Elf, Fairy and Fairy-Elf Pegdolls.

We then got completely immersed in the names and characters everyone had created, ready for our storytelling part of the session. There were some very creative ideas and some very special little characters!

Well done to everyone who joined us, you were absolute stars. 💕 We’re already looking forward to doing something similar in the autumn...

But before then, we have one last summer holiday session!

Some of us were more enthusiastic to see the rain than others at the museum today... 🌧️ When the heavens opened, Ann was taking absolutely no chances with her freshly styled hair! 😂☔️

Meanwhile, the knitters yard was looking very atmospheric in the rain! We're always happy to welcome a downpour after all that sunshine. 🌿🌧️

Thanks to everyone who braved the rain today, some of us definitely got wetter than others, while Ann protected the hair at all costs!
