Framework Knitters Museum Award-winning museum in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire. The museum features two preserved workshops, a row of workers cottages and gardens.

Open Wednesday to Saturday: 11:00am – 4:00pm, Sunday: 1:30pm – 4:00pm

Cafe/ Parkers Yard varies. Watch a framework knitter in action in the frameshop. Have a go on a Griswold sock machine and make your own scarf. Last week, a group of FWK volunteers travelled to Birmingham to visit The Coffin Works Museum as part of our reciprocal visit programme.

Reciprocal visits give our volunteers the opportunity to visit other museums, learn from their staff and volunteers, and bring back ideas that help us improve the experience we offer here at FWK.

The Coffin Works tells the story of Newman Brothers, a factory that produced coffin furniture, linings and fittings for over a century. From original machinery and workshops to the stories of the people who worked there, it was a fascinating insight into a very different aspect of Britain's industrial heritage.

A huge thank you to the Coffin Works team for such a warm welcome. We returned to Nottingham inspired and full of ideas!

What’s happened to the sunshine?

Well whatever the weather this weekend we will be joining in with two events.

Firstly on Saturday we are celebrating International Knit in Public Day 🧶 We’ve reserved the summerhouse in the garden for folk who want to bring a project (doesn’t have to be knitting) and chat with other crafters. Drop in from 11am.

Also, we are supporting the Ruddington Open Gardens 🌺 This event is on both Saturday and Sunday. We will have official programmes to buy and our garden is on the map!!

Please be aware that our site closes at 4pm on both days, but we do open earlier so maybe make a start with us.

Everyone is welcome.

As part of Volunteers' Week, we're joining Ann for a tour of the Framework Knitters Museum. 💚

In this short film, Ann introduces some of the different areas where volunteers help make the museum what it is today. From welcoming visitors and guiding groups to supporting demonstrations and behind-the-scenes work, volunteers play a vital role throughout the museum.

Filmed by Nottingham Trent University media students in November 2024, this video offers a wonderful glimpse into the many ways people can get involved.

Join us for a special Friends of the Museum day coach trip to the World of Wedgwood, one of the UK’s most celebrated heritage attractions.

This fully organised visit includes guided tours, giving you a fascinating insight into the craftsmanship, history, and innovation behind Wedgwood.

There will also be time to explore the site at your own pace — whether that’s visiting the museum, browsing the shop, or enjoying the surroundings.

Today we're highlighting the impact our volunteers have on the Framework Knitters Museum.

Over the last year alone, volunteers contributed 2,543 hours supporting collections care, welcoming visitors, demonstrations, events, research and learning activities.

Many of our volunteers have supported the museum for years, helping to preserve and share the story of framework knitting with visitors from across the country and beyond.

We were delighted to welcome many of our wonderful volunteers to the Chapel Gallery today for a special Volunteers' Week afternoon tea.

The afternoon was a chance to bring volunteers together, say thank you for everything they do, and celebrate the friendships, knowledge and shared passion that make our volunteer community so special.

Volunteers enjoyed a delicious spread prepared by Parkers Yard, plenty of tea and conversation, and a small gift bag as a token of our appreciation.

To round off the afternoon, volunteers were treated to an exclusive opportunity to explore some rarely seen items from the museum collection with our Collection Consultant, Emma, giving everyone a fascinating glimpse into some of the stories and treasures held behind the scenes.

It was lovely to see volunteers from across the museum spending time together, sharing experiences, meeting new faces, and enjoying a well-deserved afternoon in good company.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to all of our volunteers who help make the museum such a welcoming and vibrant place. 💚
