THIS Saturday - FREE fun-filled day of art and science activities for all ages!

MEDWAY FUN PALACES TRAIL 2026

🎨 Nucleus Arts Main Centre, 272 High Street, Chatham 11am - 4pm

Visit us on the day for lots of fun activities including their Share Skills Studio, Green Screen Hub and Graffiti Gazebo.

The team from The Historic Dockyard Chatham who will share the mischievous story of Barnaby Bilge and provide fun craft activities.

Medway Sound Lab - The Black Art Hub - Be part of creating a Medway Community Song!

Play an African finger instrument, make rhythms, experiment with sound, sing or hum.

🧬 Science & Environment Lab - Pentagon Centre, Chatham - 11am - 4pm

Nucleus Arts - Dr David Stokes - Brain Lab, Docking Station with Digital Workshops, Icon Theatre - Help build an ideal town,

Medway School of Pharmacy - DNA Phenotype Keyring making & Ink Chromatography Art Project.

Child Friendly Medway will also be in the Pentagon 11am - 4pm with a fun activity for children using air dry clay.

👩‍🎨 Art Junction - 13 Military Road, Chatham - 11am -4pm - Craft Activities

✏️ Intra Arts - 337-341 High Street, Rochester ME1 1DA - 2pm - 5pm

Learn how to identify mushrooms, see fascinating tiny features with a microscope, and make fungi-themed creations with scrap materials (supplied by Intra’s neighbours Zigzag Scrapstore) to take home.

🖌️ Sun Pier House - Medway Street ME4 4HF - 1pm - 3pm - An afternoon of free have-a-go activities

MESS ROOM CIC - Sun Pier House, Medway Street ME4 4HF - 1pm - 3pm

Try simulated spectacles to experience common eye conditions, then spin up your own artwork in a salad spinner — centrifugal force will do the work. No two are ever the same. Fun, colourful and easy for anyone to join in. Make and take your artwork home.

Electric Medway - Sun Pier House, Medway Street ME4 4HF - 1pm - 3pm

At our Tech Station you can:
- Have a go at creating a stop motion animation using objects and iPads

- Play 'To Whom it May Concern' - an arcade game created by participants from our Men in Tech project in 2025... can you climb to the top of the leaderboard?

- Meet the team and find out about our upcoming events, including Men in Tech, Cinema Club and Createch meet ups.

Medway & Kent Lens by The Black Art Hub CIC have been with us all month. A collection of photography, film and video from hobbyists, students, beginners and experienced professionals.

See the full exhibition over at our sister gallery The Halpern Gallery Hurry, it ends on Wednesday 1 July.

Now on at MedwayArtBox: “My Sun Pier House” - 2026 Resident Show

In March 2026 Sun Pier House relaunched its Gallery to the public with a resident artist exhibition, but this time there was a twist!

Armed with disposable cameras, residents documented their daily life at Sun Pier House, their creative process, studio spaces, unfinished ideas, moments of connection, quiet routines, community workshops, and the view from their chair.

These black and white photographs in the exhibition sat alongside current artworks from each participating artist, plus a short personal statement about what their studio means to them. Together, these works created a portrait of our building and the people who bring it to life, sharing the everyday lives of artists at Sun Pier House.

Displayed here in MedwayArtBox this month are those photos taken by Sun Pier artists, on display until the 26 May 2026

We’re ready for Rochester Sweeps Festival 🙌 💙 🕊️ 🖼️

We’ll be open 24/7 from 1 - 4 May for artists to gift work and art lovers to select a piece for the price of a shout out on social media.

How to get involved:
Drop your work off at MedwayArtBox anytime from 1 - 4 May (there’ll be hangy things to hang it up with) Remember to put your name and social media handles on the piece so the lucky new owner can find you to say thank you and share it on social media.

And don’t forget to take a photo of your work in the box (if you’re in it then even better) and tag/mention us so we can share it too.

Lastly please share this post with your lovely arty friends. Let’s make this year the best one yet!

This weekend (1 - 4 May) 50,000 people will descend on Rochester for Medway Sweeps Festival and, as usual, we’ll be filling MedwayArtBox with art….
.and that’s where we need your help, please. We’ll be open 24/7 during the festival for artists to gift work and for art lovers to take a piece and shout about it on social media.

How to get involved:
Drop your work off at MedwayArtBox anytime from 1 - 4 May (there’ll be hangy things to hang it up with) remember to put your name and social media handles on the piece so the lucky new owner can find you to say thank you and share it on social media.
