We pride ourselves on being friendly and welcoming, offering a relaxed way for people to engage in meaningful conversations. Our walks are designed to be social, fun, and free to all, while promoting physical and mental well-being.

ounders Glenice and Alan, Walk and Talk became an independent group in January 2023. Our mission is to provide a welcoming space where people can meet new friends, stay active, and improve their mental health—all in a supportive, relaxed environment.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿
• 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀: Walks take place Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening options. We average 350–400 walkers per month.
• 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀: Walks span over 70 locations, each with numerous routes, ensuring variety and inclusivity. Venues mostly are accessible by public transport and nearly all have ample parking, mainly with nearby facilities.
• 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Most walks conclude at a café or pub, giving participants the chance to relax and socialize over refreshments. This helps foster a sense of community and encourages ongoing participation.
• 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: No sign-ups or registration are required—simply arrive at the meeting point. Walks start at 11:00 a.m., with participants gathering from 10:30 a.m. New walkers should introduce themselves to the walk leader before mingling with the group. All walks are free of charge.
• 𝗗𝗼𝗴-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆:Well-behaved dogs are welcome on most walks. Owners are responsible for their pets. We occasionally walk through parks, forests, or farmland with wildlife and livestock. Please follow safety guidelines and the Country and Highway Codes
• 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆: We recommend bringing water to stay hydrated and, on longer walks, a light snack. Please wear appropriate attire, including sturdy footwear, as we walk in all weather and on varied terrain. Hiking poles or umbrellas can also be helpful. Participants are encouraged to be mindful of other walkers, runners, cyclists, and riders, especially as we often spend time chatting during walks.

Walk and Talk offers a host of benefits to the community:

• 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: Promoting mindfulness, reducing isolation, and improving mood through nature and conversation.
• 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Creating opportunities for people to connect, foster friendships, and support one another in a safe, inclusive environment.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
All walks and activities are undertaken at participants' own risk. Walk and Talk cannot accept responsibility for persons who voluntarily leave the main party. If you choose to depart early, it is essential you notify the walk leader and or back-marker. As a not-for-profit group, we rely on the dedication of our volunteers to lead and organize walks and activities. We are always looking for ways to expand our services, improve accessibility, and ensure we can continue to offer this valuable resource to the community free of charge.

# 1. **Are the walks free?**
- Yes, all walks are free.

# 2. **What time do the walks start?**
- Most walks start at 11 a.m. (unless otherwise advertised).

# 3. **How far do you walk?**
- Typically between 3 and 5 miles (unless otherwise advertised).

# 4. **How long do the walks last?**
- Walks generally last between 90 and 120 minutes, depending on the pace and stops. Occasionally, longer "Extended" walks are advertised.

# 5. **Why isn’t there a fixed duration or distance for the walks?**
- Our walks vary and adapt based on the group and the day’s conditions, so they may change at the last minute.

# 6. **Can I bring my dog?**
- Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

# 7. **Can I bring children?**
- Yes, children are welcome, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

# 8. **Do the walks finish where they start?**
- Yes, unless a linear walk is specifically advertised.

# 9. **Are there stiles or other obstacles on the walk?**
- Occasionally, we may need to cross fields or navigate stiles and other barriers. Assistance is always available when needed.

# 10. **Why are the walks free?**
- We are a voluntary group. Our walk leaders offer their time freely and do not get reimbursed. Walks are free, and we don’t charge for membership or entry fees. Any costs, like insurance, are covered through fundraising events (such as quiz nights) or donations.

# 11. **How can I contact you?**

# 12. **Why do you not a have a WebSite?**
- We know a website would be useful, but right now we simply do not have the resources to create and maintain one. Websites require: - Time- Money - Technical and Artistic knowledge.
- These are listed in order of what is most precious to us — especially volunteer time.
- We currently use Facebook as our main platform because it is free and allows us to quickly share walk details, photos, and community updates.

- We would like to offer weekend and evening walks, and it has been known to happen. However, due to other commitments, it can be difficult to find the time, and for safety reasons we prefer to have two walk leaders on every walk. There are also plenty of other groups walking at weekends, as many of us are already members of the Ramblers and other walking and hiking groups.

Thank-you to the 21 walkers who came for today’s 5 2/3 mile walk which took us around the Mill Pond up over the viaduct and Sheepbridge Lane footbridge, down over the river Maun, across Oakham nature reserve. Down Bleak Hills
Lane across the railway bridge and round the reservoir. And then back alongside the river and finish off at Sandys bar.

20 walkers joined Rob for a 5.6mile stroll in just over 2hrs. Following the Maun River and the Timberland Trail over to King's Mill Reservoir - around the reservoir back along the Maun River and into Sandy's Bar at Stags. Lots of chat and laughter along the way which carried on with the 16 who went into the bar for food and liquid refreshments. Thanks to Rob for leading, Peter for back marking and to all the walkers. Tomorrow's walk is in Belper and Mondays walk is in Sherwood Pines (free parking)...

Expect a delightful walk of approximately six miles, featuring beautiful countryside, gentle rolling hills, fascinating scenery, and plenty of opportunities for conversation as we stroll together.

A few suggestions for Saturday:
• Walking boots are recommended.
• Long trousers are advisable.
• Please allow approximately 3½ hours, including our mid-walk refreshment break.

🚗 If you're able to offer or share a lift to Belper, it would be greatly appreciated. Please arrange any car sharing amongst yourselves. With a 10:00 AM start, this walk is unfortunately not practical by public transport from Mansfield.

🌲 Then on Monday, come rain or shine, we will be walking at Sherwood Pines. normal time 11AM meeting near the car parking payment machines.

Thanks to the wonderful people at Forestry England, we have a concession which allows our walkers to park free of charge. When you arrive, I will need your vehicle registration number. If you park some distance from the meeting point, it may be helpful to take a photo of your number plate beforehand if you're likely to forget it.

🥾🌳 **Hoofing and Hiking with Helen** 🌳🥾

Not quite the Himalayas, but the beautiful surroundings of Clipstone certainly didn't disappoint as we set off from Vicar Water Country Park this morning😊

A huge **thank you to Helen** for leading today's fantastic walk and an equally massive **thank you to all 29 of us walkers** for this enjoyable 4¼-mile adventure. 👏🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Our route took us through the lovely woodland trails of **Intake Wood** and **Cavendish Wood**, before passing the new café at Sherwood Fisheries and continuing on the second half of our journey. 🌲🍃☀️

It's quite remarkable how many different routes and hidden gems we continue to discover in this small corner of Mansfield. Every walk seems to reveal something new🗺️✨

After all that hoofing and hiking, many of us enjoyed a well-earned visit to ** Rumbles at Vicar Water **. ☕🍰 The cheese scone was deliciously light and fluffy... although I'm still wondering who relieved me of my second pat of butter😂🧈🕵️‍♂️

What a wonderful turnout, great company, plenty of laughter, and another memorable Walk and Talk outing. ❤️

🌳🚶‍♀️ Picturesque Pleasley with Peter 🚶‍♂️🌳

A huge thank you to Peter for leading today's delightful 4½-mile walk around beautiful Pleasley and Rowthorne, and thanks to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable morning. 😊

The day began with a fair amount of drizzle ☔, but thankfully the rain soon drifted away, leaving us with plenty of fresh air, wonderful company, and conversation that flowed effortlessly throughout the walk. Despite the occasional burst of chilly wind 🌬️, spirits remained high and the pace was certainly lively—perhaps that's what kept us all on our toes.

Walking today gave me the chance to enjoy conversations with people I don't always get to chat with, which made the morning even more special. It's one of the many reasons why our walks are about so much more than simply putting one foot in front of the other. ❤️

🚶‍♂️☀️ **Sauntering Shirebrook with Stuart** ☀️🚶‍♀️

Today saw us enjoying a delightful 4.8-mile stroll led by Stuart on his very first walk as a Walk and Talk leader. 🎉👏

What a fantastic debut it was Stuart guided us along a route that, despite walking around this area for years, I honestly can't recall exploring before. Some of the trail was new to me, although once we reached the Warsop Vale area, I felt right at home again. 😊

The weather could not have been better. 🌞 It was warm enough to feel that summer has truly arrived, yet pleasantly shaded in places, meaning hats and sun cream could stay tucked away. Perfect walking conditions😎🌳

The route was wonderfully gentle throughout, with mostly flat terrain and only the slightest of slopes to remind us we were exercising. It made for a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing two-hour wander. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

A huge thank you to Stuart for leading today's walk and to everyone who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable morning. Those who couldn't join us will never know what they missed! 😉😄

Afterwards, Fourteen of us headed to **Shirebrook's Shakes & Cakes** for some well-earned refreshments. 🍳☕ I can personally recommend the "small breakfast" which was just right and certainly hit the spot

🌳🚶‍♂️🌞 **Majestic Marauders on a Monday** 🌞🚶‍♀️🌳

What a wonderful way to start the week😊 Led by Hugh at a leisurely pace 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ and without a care in the world, today's walk was a perfect reminder of what walking is all about – good company 🤗, fresh air 🌿, beautiful surroundings 🌳🌼, and time to simply enjoy the moment. ☀️

👏 A huge thank you to Hugh for leading us on a fantastic route. Much of it felt completely new to me, although it did spark a memory 💭. When I first moved to the area nearly nine years ago 🏡, my very first walk with *On Your Doorstep* may well have been the reverse of today's route, led by Keith Wallace. 🚶‍♂️

🌲 One of the remarkable things about today's walk was how peaceful it was. For much of the route we hardly saw another soul 👀. No crowded paths, no queues, just us, nature, birdsong 🐦, and the occasional friendly chat 😊. If you're looking for a walk that remains enjoyable even on a damp day ☔, Brierley Forest must surely be one of the best options around. 🌳🍃

☕🍰 As for our visit to ** Brierley Cafe**, of course they deserve a special mention⭐ Following the recommendation of our very own Phil of Pleasley 👏, I tackled his suggested waffle. 🧇

Thankfully, I had the benefit of wisdom from two stunners 😇😇, Angie and Mags, who kindly advised me on both *how* to eat it and, more importantly, why I shouldn't attempt to eat it all in one sitting😂🍽️ Their guidance was gratefully received and very much appreciated. ❤️🙏

🌟 A true and heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along today. Whether you were at the front, the middle, or bringing up the rear 🚶‍♀️🚶🚶‍♂️, it was your smiles 😊, conversations 💬, laughter 😄, and companionship 🤗 that made the walk so special. If i can mention it, thank you Vicky for keeping pace with Avril😊

🗺️ Tomorrow we head off on yet another new adventure, starting from Shirebrook. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Afterward, many of us will be descending upon **Shirebrook Shakes & Cakes** 🍰🥤 for refreshments, friendly chatter ☕, and no doubt a few more laughs😂

This week's programme includes new walks on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, with Saturday's adventure taking us a little further afield than usual.

Expect a delightful walk of just on 𝐬𝐢𝐱 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬, featuring beautiful countryside, gentle rolling hills, fascinating scenery, and plenty of opportunities for conversation as we stroll along together. 😊

🥾 A few suggestions for Saturday:
• Walking boots are recommended.
• Long trousers are advisable.
• Allow approximately 𝟑½ 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬, including our mid-walk refreshment break.

🚗 If you're able to offer or share a car journey to Belper, it would be greatly appreciated. With a 𝟏𝟎:𝟎𝟎 𝐀𝐌 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭, this walk is unfortunately not practical by public transport from Mansfield.
