Yesterday trainee firefighter Will Cooper completed his first shift at Mansfield Fire Station 🧑‍🚒

Whilst he is just starting his career with us here in Nottinghamshire, his dad (who is also pictured) is coming to the end of his NFRS journey.

Group Manager Richard Cooper, who is set to retire in December after being with us for over 20 years, proudly came to support his son on his first day on the job.

Good luck on your career Will, and thank you for your service Richard! 🚒❤️

Recently we hosted a tour to the Fire Museum on behalf of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for representatives from a number of Brigages across the UK and from Mexico.
They were at Stn1 Mansfield Fire Station for a user group meeting for Fire Services that use Fire Service Rota for rostering of teams and appliances etc.
All enjoyed a trip back in time viewing the memorabilia collections. 🚒🚒🚒

Today we paid tribute to all those that fought for us

They gave their tomorrow for our today. Respect to them all.

Did you know?
Top Secret D-Day Mission. During WW2 the National Fire Service were part of the top secret mission, ‘Operation Colour Scheme’

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944, when Western Allies launched one of the biggest seaborne invasions in history to liberate occupied France.

As D-Day loomed more and more equipment was stockpiled in the South East, National Fire Service (NFS) Commanders were tasked with a top secret mission, ‘Operation Colour Scheme’

🔥Operation Colour Scheme

‘Operation Colour Scheme’ involved the secret movement of 11,000 firemen and women, with over 1200 appliances and equipment, in less than a week, to protect ‘Red’, ‘Brown’ and ‘Green’ zones. These included ammunition dumps, petrol pipe lines and an enormous armada of ships in the lower reaches of the River Thames, poised for the invasion of France.

Here’s some photos of our NFS exhibits:

In March we were visited by Rob Sanderson son of the late retired Sub Officer John Sanderson. He donated his dad’s collection of fire service items including some of his original fire kit.

Today Rob re-visited us with some further fire service memorabilia for the museum that was his dad’s.

It was good seeing you again Rob and thank you…..

Today we were visited by retired firefighter John Wheeldon.
He wanted to look around the museum and wanted to recall memories when our building was the former Brigade Training School. 🚒🚒
John joined Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service in 1967 doing basic training at Leicester. 🚒
He was posted to Stn 19 West Bridgford Fire Station 🚒🚒
Promoted to Leading Fireman at Training School in 1970 🚒
Sub Officer in 1974 back to Stn 19.
He retired in 1978. 🚒🚒

He had a guided tour of Mansfield Fire Station as well.

It was a pleasure hosting you John and you are welcome anytime. 🚒
