“Paul has been awarded the prestigious British Empire Medal for services.”

“Paul has given over 50 years of volunteering service to the community, with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Mansfield Fire Station and currently Mansfield Fire Museum where he heads up Communications & Media.”

Earlier today we were visited by members of Hucknall and District u3a

They enjoyed a talk on the Great Fire of London followed by a guided tour around the fire museum.

After tea and coffee they were treated to a visit to Mansfield Fire Station where they viewed one of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service brand new Scania Rescue Pumps and a question and answer session on NFRS.

Thank you for visiting us and such a kind email sent afterwards thanking us on how much you enjoyed your visit.

As Volunteers' Week 2026 draws towards a close, we wanted to take a moment to to pause and say a big thank you to our volunteers and supporters who help us.

The UK has roughly 166,000 formal voluntary organisations. However, including grassroots community groups and social enterprises, total non-profit entities exceed 500,000. Around 14 million people formally volunteer annually, with roughly 7 to 8 million volunteering at least once a month.

An even bigger thank you to each and every one of you. !
