We are delighted to return to Frieze Masters this October.

Presenting a carefully curated selection of 20th-century Modern and Post-War British art, our exhibition brings together works by some of the defining figures of British modernism, including William Scott, Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, Barbara Hepworth, Ivon Hitchens and Henry Moore.

Featured here is William Scott’s Jar and Plate, painted in 1971, a striking example of the artist’s distinctive reduction of the still life into simplified, abstract forms.

Today we are celebrating the life and work of Henry Moore who was born on this day in 1898. We are delighted to have been able to exhibit his work at 147 New Bond Street in an exhibition titled The Female Form over the past months and on view through August.

Following the record-breaking release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, we’re highlighting a Homeric detail closer to home. 33 New Bond Street, which we rebuilt in 2011 and which served as one of our galleries for many years, carries The Prophecy of Tiresias — three carved Portland stone bas-reliefs depicting Book XI of Homer’s epic. We commissioned an entirely new building, designed by George Saumarez Smith of ADAM Architecture and brilliantly fusing modernity and tradition. The sculpture on the façade was created by the distinguished Scottish sculptor Alexander Stoddart. We now let the building to the great fashion house JACQUEMUS, and are thrilled to have added it to New Bond Street.

DAME BARBARA HEPWORTH, Vertical form (St Ives)

This beautiful balanced asymmetric bronze was cast from Hepworth’s Vertical Wood Form (1968) made in lignum vitae. Vertical Form (St Ives) replicates the height and form of the wood sculpture while its highly polished, luminous warm gold surface reflects an ever greater expression of space and light. The subtitle, St Ives, refers to the place Hepworth had lived and worked since August 1930.

A major new exhibition of Hepworth work is now on view at the Courtauld Denise Coates Exhibition Galleries until September 6. This ambitious exhibition is the first to explore a less familiar aspect of her work, the artist’s lifelong fascination with colour, which she used in highly original and unexpected ways. The exhibition unites for the first time her early innovative sculptures with colour of the 1940s, displayed alongside the most important drawings from that decade, and includes major examples of her work with colour from the 1950s and 1960s.

By the 1970s, Joseph Hirschhorn owned more than 70 works by Moore and this maquette was among the first. The maquette for a Draped reclining woman captures Moore mid-thought: the final sculpture would be set on a solid plinth, yet here the figure reclines on a low table with tapered legs, scale and intimacy held in unexpected conversation.

While Lowry is most known for his industrial scenes, seascapes are a recurring theme throughout the artist’s career- recalling his childhood holidays with his parents at Lytham St Annes, a resort on the Lancashire coast. This picturesque and peaceful seascape focuses on a single yacht at the centre of Lowry’s small, almost square canvas, serenely still amongst softly textured ripples of white, ochre and Prussian blue.

The Treasure House Fair returns to the Royal Hospital Chelsea at the height of London’s summer season, and this year Richard Green will present an outstanding selection of Modern and Post-War British paintings and sculpture, featuring exceptional works by some of the most important artists of the twentieth century

Among the highlights is Sir Alfred Munnings’s Going to the post, c.1945, related to his large Royal Academy exhibit of 1948, Going to the start. He captures the tension and exhilaration of the minutes before the race as two horses canter up to the start. Such scenes became a major theme of his paintings as horseracing revived in the years after the Second World War. By then President of the Royal Academy, friend of the great and good, for Munnings racing had become a luxurious ritual, as he was chauffeured up to Newmarket from his home in Dedham through the glorious Suffolk countryside.
