Our Sculptors' Drawings and Prints exhibition is open all bank holiday weekend on the mezzanine level at Kings Place.

Here is one of Joseph Paxton's beautiful charcoal drawings of a peregrine falcon, a bird native to the Welsh countryside where he grew up.

As usual, the Main Gallery will be closed on bank holiday Monday but open for visitors on Saturday 10am till 6pm.

Towards the end of Lynn Chadwick's career he began to experiment with stainless steel. He enjoyed the way the facets reflected the light rather than absorbed it as with the bronzes. At Houghton we are extremely lucky to be able to show a rare group of five dynamic beasts on the front lawn. With the wide open Norfolk skies they change throughout the day with the light.

We are proud to share that Pangolin London artist Susie MacMurray has a new site-specific exhibition opening this Autumn!

'Again and Again and Again' opens at the Vindolanda Museum in Northumberland from 9 October to 31 December 2026.

Developed during her residency with the Vindolanda Trust earlier this year, MacMurray's three new sculptural works directly respond to to the 2,000-year-old organic Roman materials preserved at the site. Known for her poetic interventions in historic spaces, she has hand-spun a kilo of rare Soay sheep's wool, sculpted 10kg of local Northumberland beeswax, and worked with dried Haircap moss to create pieces that appear to emerge from the museum's walls.

The exhibition explores the profound value of hand-making, repetition, and material knowledge across millennia.

Displayed together as part of 'Lynn Chadwick: The Complete Prints' is this beautiful bronze 'Winged Girl I' and an elegant limited-edition lithograph of the same name.

Lynn Chadwick served as a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War, an experience that greatly influenced his fascination with balance, structural integrity, and motion. This unusual piece reflects Chadwick's interest in the interplay of structure and organic form, pairing angular, abstracted mechanical wings with the gentle curves of the female figure. Instead of his signature rectangular or triangular faces however here we see him use a circular concave form, perhaps reminiscent of a radar receiver dish, to indicate the face which he turns expectantly towards the sky.

Today we remember the wonderful Carl Plackman on what would have been his 83rd birthday.

Often described as the godfather of British conceptual sculpture, Plackman's artistic oeuvre encompassed sculpture, drawing, installation and, occasionally, photography.

A true 'artist's artist', he was one of the most profound sculptors of his generation and a generous, influential teacher. Alongside developing his own practice, he taught at Goldsmiths College, London, and other institutions across the UK, inspiring generations of artists. Many of his former students went on to become leading figures in British contemporary art, including Alison Wilding, Tony Cragg, Damien Hirst and Liam Gillick.

This World Nature Conservation Day, we're celebrating the remarkable work of our collaborators, The Ruwenzori Foundation 🌿

Nineteen years ago, the Foundation's 80-acre site in the foothills of Uganda's Ruwenzori Mountains was degraded cotton farmland, with only a handful of indigenous trees remaining and just 50 recorded bird species.

Today, following years of indigenous tree planting, a ban on hunting, and the gradual removal of exotic species, it has been transformed into a thriving woodland. The site is now home to 207 bird species, clouds of butterflies, more than 30 reptile species, and returning mammals.

Jon Buck's Bird in the Bush, commissioned by the Ruwenzori Foundation for its Art Centre in 2014, beautifully reflects this story of rewilding. Cast in twenty individual bronze sections at the Foundation's foundry — the largest in Uganda — the sculpture celebrates both the skill of its casters and the extraordinary landscape that now surrounds it.
