CARPENTERS WORKSHOP GALLERY

CARPENTERS WORKSHOP GALLERY About Us

Carpenters Workshop Gallery transcends classical borders in terms of art and design.

Its proposal stands just at the intersection of these two universes: reaching precisely a symbiosis of art and design. Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and already established artists and designers going outside their traditional territories of expression. The gallery is actively involved in the research and production of the limited e

dition works exhibited. The choices are guided by the research of an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that appears as an evidence. The gallery relies on the partnership of childhood friends, Julien Lombrail and Loic Le Gaillard. They first opened a space in London’s Chelsea in 2006 in a former carpenter’s workshop; they then followed with a second space in Mayfair in 2008. The opening of a 600 square metre space in Paris in 2011 in the heart of Le Marais district, an address steeped in history as it was previously occupied by the Galerie de France for several decades, was a return to their roots.

2015 marks a major turning point for the gallery with the opening of Carpenters Workshop | Roissy, a unique 8,000 meter square space dedicated to artistic research and development, bringing together the elite of artisans, an homage to the French heritage of ‘Arts Décoratifs’. Carpenters Workshop Gallery London at Ladbroke Hall is the latest step in the gallery’s remarkable development. This new space opening in April 2023 confirms the leadership and dominant position of the gallery in today’s international territory of art and design. The artists represented by the gallery are:
Atelier Van Lieshout - Maarten Baas - Sebastian Brajkovic - Andrea Branzi - Humberto & Fernando Campana - Nacho Carbonell - Wendell Castle - Vincenzo de Cotiis - Ingrid Donat - Vincent Dubourg - Johanna Grawunder - Stuart Haygarth - Mathier Lehanneur - Les M - Frederik Molenschot - Nendo - Rick Owens - Wonmin Park - Random International - Pablo Reinoso - Robert Stadler - Studio Drift - Studio Job - Charles Trevelyan

Clay Basel Chair Bronze | Maarten Baas

Showcasing hand-moulded, whimsical forms cast in the permanence of bronze, this chair preserves the spontaneity and playful spirit of clay while elevating an everyday object into a sculptural work of art.

Celebrated for his rebellious and theatrical style, .Baas infuses design with childlike creativity and wit, constantly blurring the boundaries between art and function.

Currently on display in his latest exhibition Reconstructing Time at Carpenters Workshop Gallery London, Ladbroke Hall. Learn more by following the link in bio.

A selection of Wonmin Park’s Plain Cuts series will debut at Design Miami/Seoul’s “Illuminated: A Spotlight on Korean Design” next month.

In this body of work, the South Korean artist uses thin aluminium sheets to explore sleek, geometric cuts. Stone & Steel pairs volcanic rock with industrial steel, creating a striking material contrast. The volcanic stones, mined in Japan, reveal dark, iron-rich interiors beneath ochre-brown shells. Their rust-like surface forms as air and moisture pe*****te deep fissures in the Earth’s crust, oxidising the iron content and giving each stone a distinctive natural patina.

“We must bring the forest indoors, turn the roots of dead trees into ceilings, live with all the living and fictional animals. [...] We have to grow up to be worthy of the nature of Brazil.” José Zanine Caldas

‘I Learned Wood Has Two Lives’ at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Los Angeles pays tribute to a modernist master who marked an era in 20th century design with an environmental consciousness that was avant-garde for this radical creator’s time as he pioneered the protest furniture movement known as ‘Móveis Denúncia.’

Join us at our Los Angeles gallery on Thursday 13th March at 6:30PM for a discussion with Brett Littman, the US Senior Director on the origins of Modernist Brazilian Design and José Zanine Caldas’ unique contributions to its aesthetics and philosophy.

Borosilicate glass bubbles forever frozen in time by The

The bubble has long symbolized transience in art history, famously depicted in Chardin’s Soap Bubbles (c. 1733–34), where a boy blows a delicate bubble as another looks on.

A similarly playful spirit infuses Verhoeven’s Bubble Collection, with its billowing, prismatic glass bubbles that look like they might pop at any moment.

Yet, the artist’s method for creating the bubbles emerged only after years of research, combining the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Made from borosilicate glass—the clearest and most stable glass ever produced—each piece reflects both precision and artistry.

Discover Joep & Jeroen Verhoeven works featured in the upcoming Spring Salon group exhibition at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, New York.

Open from 6 March - 16 April

CL Monte, 2021 by Frederik Molenschot

’s Citylight series is a collection of light sculptures that depict abstract, futuristic cityscapes. CL Monte (2021) features an array of light fixtures crafted in bronze with a polished patina. The composition of the piece changes from different viewpoints and morphs into a completely new formation, exemplifying Molenschot’s mastery of the material.

Our Story

Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and established artists and designers, often venturing outside their traditional territories of expression.

Actively involved in the research and production of the limited edition works exhibited the gallery’s choices are guided by the demand for the emotional, artistic and historical relevance of any new project; a relevance that is clearly evident.

The gallery relies on the partnership of childhood friends, Julien Lombrail and Loic Le Gaillard. Julien & Loic first opened a space in London’s Chelsea in 2006 in a former carpenter’s workshop; they now operate three galleries globally in London’s Mayfair, New York as well as Paris.

The opening of the Carpenters Workshop Gallery | San Francisco in Saint Joseph’s this September is a new step of their journey.
