Artist spotlight | Philippe Parreno’s Marquee series, initiated in 2006, are unique works, individual in their form, light effect and construction.⁣
⁣
The series was inspired by the glowing, flickering neon-lit marquees which were placed above the entrances to cinemas and theatres in the mid-20th century, announcing the titles of films playing inside. Deprived of their original context, Parreno’s Marquees acquire an altogether different meaning.⁣

The exhibition brings together leading voices in contemporary abstraction to explore painting as both process and presence. At the centre of the exhibition is a newly commissioned large-scale work , in which colour unfolds as an immersive environment. The painting draws viewers into a shifting perceptual field, blurring distinctions between surface and space.⁣

Rirkrit Tiravanija: The House that Jack Built closes soon at Pirelli HangarBicocca. The retrospective centers Tiravanija’s long-standing investigation into spatial and architectural practice.⁣
⁣
Alongside a selection of historical works dating from the 1990s, the exhibition, curated by Lucia Aspesi and Vicente Todolí, features installations inspired by iconic buildings by architects such as Rudolf Michael Schindler, Frederick Kiesler, Le Corbusier, Philip Johnson, Jean Prouvé and Sigurd Lewerentz. Structured as a constellation of diverse environments, the exhibition offers spaces for gathering and sharing real-life experiences, engaging with notions of leisure, play and rest.⁣

Closing Soon | Best Femmes Forever, an exhibition of video installation and painting by the American artist duo Mary Reid Kelley and Patrick Kelley.

The four-channel video work tells the story of three women who violently lost their lives in the French Revolution: Queen Marie Antoinette, Madame du Barry and the Princesse de Lamballe. The rivalries and emotions between the women unfold in a ribald clerihew battle–short, comic verses that rhyme on a person’s name–between Marie Antoinette and Madame du Barry that playfully riffs on the real sexual jealousy between the pair.

On view at our 51 Conduit Street location through 7 March 2026.

Pilar Corrias wishes Tomashi Jackson a very happy birthday!

Tomashi's first UK solo exhibition, Silent Alarm, opened last week at our Conduit Street space. On the occasion of her first show with the gallery, Tomashi presents work that traces a constellation of historic riots in Los Angeles and London.

The paintings are mostly constructed from textiles collected from the two cities, embedded with pastes mixed from quarried stone dusts, soil, and burned palm tree ash. The palm ash references Jackson’s own experience as a twelve-year-old during the 1992 L.A. Uprising, when fires burned and ash rained across the city for four consecutive days.

Pilar Corrias wishes a happy birthday!🎂

Spending just a few minutes in front of one of Vivien Zhang’s vast, graphic canvases is a hypnotic experience. Having spent her childhood in China, Kenya and Thailand, the artist is based in east London, creating cultural kaleidoscopes out of motifs from different countries, centuries and shared experiences. Zhang's aim...is to write a new visual language and set out what she calls an ‘alternative landscape’ for generations growing up away from their parents’ original cultures. [Her most recent paintings are based on ocean-orientated map projections].

Pilar Corrias is delighted to present new paintings by Gisela McDaniel at The Armory Show 2023 next week.

The artist’s presentation at booth 410 builds upon her ongoing commitment to expanding the discipline of painting into a form of social practice. Working primarily with BIPOC women and non-binary people, McDaniel interweaves audio interviews, assemblage and oil painting in order to subvert the traditional power relations of artist and sitter. By incorporating her sitters’ voices and giving them control over their representation, McDaniel critiques art historical traditions that privilege the artist’s perspective.

Public days will take place on 8–10 September 2023, with VIP previews held on 7 September.
