It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Paul Frearson.

Paul began his tailoring journey at just 15 in his hometown of Hastings and two years later, his remarkable talent led him to Savile Row—a place he would call home for the next 65 years. A devoted craftsman, he dedicated his life to the trade, training seven Henry Poole coat makers.

Paul’s passion for tailoring was matched by his generosity toward those within it. Always willing to offer his time, guidance, and support, he became a beloved mentor to many. His dedication extended beyond the workshop through his volunteer work with the Bespoke Tailors Benevolent Association (BTBA), which he joined in 1990 before later serving as treasurer.

Our hearts go out to his wife, five children, and twelve grandchildren. Paul’s legacy will live on and he will be deeply missed.

Every two years, the tailoring industry gathers for The Golden Shears, a prestigious competition where tailoring students from around the country showcase their skills. Participants are required to design, cut, and tailor their own garments, which are then judged across these three key criteria.

Often referred to as the "Oscars of tailoring," we are thrilled to support our very own apprentice coat maker, Wendy Berberi, as she competes in this year’s event.

Tickets are currently available for this year's competition via . This year's event will be hosted at the The Merchant Taylors Hall on the 17th March.

Our archive room, established in 2015, safeguards the rich history of Henry Poole through meticulously preserved records dating back to our founding in 1806. These ledgers, which have endured multiple world wars, document every customer and order up until the early 1990s. The second photo reveals the fragile condition of many ledgers before they were carefully re-bound.

This vibrant blue wool, linen, and silk blend fabric is set to become a stunning three-piece summer suit. Carefully marked out by cutter Tom Pendry, each piece will be cut out and bundled together with essential trimmings—canvassing, shoulder pads, buttons, and more—before being passed on to one of our skilled tailors. With precision and craftsmanship, they will transform these individual components into a suit, ready for it's first fitting.

The initial fitting in the process is known as a baste fitting. After this stage, the suit is fully taken apart, allowing the cutter to re-cut the fabric and make the required adjustments. Once these modifications are made, the paper pattern is also updated to reflect the changes.

Henry preparing a fitting for one of our upcoming Trunk Shows. For new customers, we typically schedule three fittings to ensure a perfect fit. Once the initial process is complete, reordering becomes much simpler. With an established pattern on file, subsequent orders usually require only one or two fittings.

Emperor Napoleon III granted our company its first Royal Warrant in 1858. His endorsement of Poole's played a significant role in our success throughout the 19th century. Our Napoleonic crested ties, proudly part of the Henry Poole & Co collection, stand as a tribute to our shared history.

How to Tie a Bow Tie With the festive season upon us, it's the perfect time to perfect your bow tie knot. Whether you're dressing for a holiday party, a formal event, or a New Year’s celebration, a well-tied bow tie is always the finishing touch to your look.

Some behind the scenes footage of our shoot earlier this year in Camberwell. We had a new collection of mannequin items made; the newly introduced Cundey weave, a forest green flannel and a fawn whipcord. To create the shop feel on set we teamed up with @odellsstudios who perfectly bought the ambience of 15 Savile Row to Camberwell. Tom carefully curated the set using items from the Henry Poole shop and also introduced items from his own broad collection aswell as a few outsourced finishing touches. Tasked with capturing the day @jonathanjameswilson has worked with Henry Poole in the past and understands the importance of attention to detail.

Meet the Makers! Here is the first in a series of timelapse videos showing coat making apprentice Wendy, opening a job and taking it all the way through to its readiness for a basted fitting.. This stage of the process is what we call ‘fixing’ and is the first step in the process of making a Bespoke Jacket. Next in our ‘cutting room series’ is Trimming. Once a job has been Struck, the various pieces make their way to a Trimmer who collates all the internal elements of the Jacket, Vest and Trouser. Rolling them tightly into what is known as a ‘Bundle’ which then makes its way down to their respective tailors. After your pattern is cut, we order an appropriate amount of cloth and transfer the card patterns to the fabric. This traditional process using chalk, rulers and shears is called striking. The time lapse video here shows a suit being struck out and cut on one of the boards in our cutting room. If you visit the showroom it is not uncommon to see one of our striking team in action.
