Who was Mrs. Philarmonica?!
Foundling Museum, Wednesday 27th October

Discover the virtuosic, charming, and deeply moving music of this unknown female composer of early 18th Century London…
Join Ensemble Augelletti, the BBC New Generation Baroque Ensemble, as they explore a mysterious publication from 1715. In the shadow of St. Pauls Cathedral, a book of chamber music by the intriguingly named ‘Mrs Philarmonica’ appeared in a music shop in 1715. This concert explores her music and speculates as to her identity by telling the stories of female musicians, publishers, and instrument makers who lived in the square around the churchyard. Mrs Philarmonica’s music will be played alongside music by Handel, Corelli, Vivaldi, and Purcell – favourites of the London audience she encountered.

Jimi arrived for the very first time in London on the morning of the 24th September 1966. He was taken to the home of George Bruno 'Zoot' Money and started playing on this guitar, before going out to perform at the Scotch of St James. This would be the first of many jamming sessions and gigs in the UK.

On this first night, Jimi met Kathy Etchingham and the pair eventually moved in to Brook street together to build a home of their own.

Saturday 7th October - Guitar Day (10:00-15:00)
'He wrote all the time, he tried everything out all the time, so a lot of music was made here. We had small gatherings of people that we knew, playing music' - Kathy Etchingham.
Come honour the rich tradition of music making in 23 Brook street on our guitar days. Bring your guitar or use ours, play your favourite Hendrix song as loud as he did and experience with new riffs on his own sofa.

About us

In a single street in London, separated by a wall, are the homes of two of history’s most significant musical artists: George Frideric Handel & Jimi Hendrix.

25 Brook Street is the house that belonged to Handel and the place where he composed some of the world’s most enduring Baroque music such as Zadok the Priest, Music for the Royal Fireworks and Messiah. Visit the rooms where he ate, slept, rehearsed and entertained in a modest mid-terraced house for the last 36 years of his life and understand the man behind these incredible works.

The top floor of 23 Brook Street is the flat where Jimi Hendrix lived with his girlfriend, record player and guitar from 1968-69. Step back in time to 60s London and visit the room where he slept, partied, worked and relaxed. Come and see Hendrix’s only recognized home in the world.

See them together under one roof at Handel & Hendrix in London. Find out more - https://handelhendrix.org/
