Coming soon to London:

Norman Smith PS
8 - 18 September
Thompson's Gallery London

This feature exhibition brings together a focused selection of works by Norman Smith PS, a painter celebrated for his atmospheric landscapes and expressive use of colour.

Working primarily in pastel and oil, Norman captures the shifting moods of the natural world. From coastal light and open skies to quiet, fleeting moments in the countryside. His distinctive handling of colour and texture creates works that are both richly atmospheric and deeply observed.

'Stock' is a famous series of sculptures created by renowned contemporary British sculptor Jonathan Clarke.

Jonathan's 'Stock' series features stylised, blocky representations of sheep, typically crafted using Clarke's signature sand-cast aluminium technique.

The original, large scale piece, Stock (Ewe with Lambs), evolved from his 2007 commission titled 'Browsers', which is permanently displayed at New Street Square in London.

Nick Botting and Oona Campbell: Edge of Sea and Sky
4th - 19th July
Thompson's Gallery Aldeburgh

Living between the Cairngorms and the North Sea, Oona Campbell draws inspiration from a remarkable range of landscapes and ever-changing weather conditions. The historic harbours of Stonehaven, Cruden Bay, Fraserburgh and Peterhead - places that have offered shelter for centuries and seem almost untouched by time continue to captivate her through their shifting seasonal atmospheres, prompting countless sketches and studies.

Painting most days, her mornings begin with walking her dog through the surrounding woodland, gathering thoughts and ideas before retreating to her studio nestled amongst the trees. Accompanied by birdsong, she begins each painting without entirely knowing where it may lead. Some works evolve effortlessly from start to finish, while others require months of contemplation, viewed in different lights and spaces until a small adjustment suddenly brings everything into balance.

Whether working directly from observation or within the studio, she seeks a sense of spontaneity within each painting a “mind of its own” or a “happy accident” that perhaps mirrors the unpredictability of nature itself, from snowstorms and mountain mist to spring showers and fleeting sunsets. Ultimately, the life within a painting must first be brought alive before it can truly be preserved.

Nick Botting and Oona Campbell: Edge of Sea and Sky
4th - 19th July
Thompson's Gallery Aldeburgh

Nick Botting is renowned for his en plein air paintings, capturing everything from the beaches of Norfolk and the streets of London to major sporting events including cricket, football, and horse racing.

Working almost exclusively from life, his paintings are celebrated for their spontaneity, atmosphere, and sense of immediacy. Over the course of his career, his work has been collected by institutions including the FA, Lord's Museum at MCC, Melbourne Cricket Ground, and Hatfield House. He has also painted notable figures such as Ian Hislop and has been repeatedly shortlisted for the BP Portrait Prize.

Direct observation remains at the heart of Botting's practice, resulting in works that are both vibrant and deeply authentic.
