Step into a world of Welsh wonder and enchantment with traditional storyteller Fiona Collins performing on the 12th September. at the Dory Gallery in Llangollen.

Set against the atmospheric woodland backdrop of the Between Moss & Myth exhibition, created by artists exploring the Dee Valley through ceramic sculpture, weaving, embroidery, textile art, painting and photography, this event brings our ancient tales, folklore, and mythic landscapes to life. We invite audiences to experience the magic of oral storytelling surrounded by art inspired by nature and myth.

Fiona is well known, loved and respected locally for her storytelling and her books. If you know her work, you'll want to come. If you don't yet, you're in for a rare treat.

We are delighted to host storyteller Andy Harrop at Oriel Dory for two special afternoon sessions as part of our "Between Moss & Myth" series.

With 30 years of storytelling experience, Andy has entertained audiences right across Great Britain, from Fort William to St Ives. He even delivered the highest story in Wales—at the top of Yr Wyddfa in the pouring rain. Drawing on Welsh myths and folk tales he first heard from his grandmother as a child, his sessions bring ancient lore to life for all ages.

Time: 1.00pm – 3.00pm

Before we even opened our doors for the Between Moss and Myth exhibition at Dory Gallery, one particular piece by artist seemed determined to cause trouble.

The artwork depicts a Pwca, a the notorious shape-shifting spirit of folklore.

Rowynn explains, “Strangely the artwork seems quite happy in my own home.
It was first exhibited at Oriel Môn, where its frame broke just before the show opening.
"It was later displayed at Aberconwy House where it frequently fell over, breaking the glass which had to be replaced.”

The irony, according to the old tales, is that a Pwca will remain perfectly peaceful if you simply pay it no attention. With that in mind, we have tucked Rowynn's Pwca away in the quietest, most secluded corner of the gallery for the duration of the show - which is open on weekends only. Without too much noise, the Pwca seems content.

You may or may not wish to view it. Just don't say we didn't warn you to show it some kindness.

Two weeks ago, we celebrated the wonderful opening of the Between Moss and Myth exhibition here at The Dory Gallery in Llangollen. The exhibition will run until the end of September 2026 and features a beautiful array of artworks by talented Welsh artists, all deeply inspired by the enchanting local folklore of Llangollen and the surrounding Dee Valley.

To accompany the exhibition, there is an exciting programme of creative workshops and demonstrations running, the vast majority of which are completely free to attend.

There is no fee to come in and look around the gallery spaces, where a wonderful selection of work available for sale if you are looking to take a unique piece of local inspiration home with you.

The wait is almost over, and we are incredibly excited to welcome you to the Dory Gallery for our upcoming exhibition, Between Moss and Myth. This collection roots itself deeply in the ancient stories of the land and the quiet magic of earth medicine, as seen through the eyes of artists and makers.

Opening Day: Saturday 4th July at 10:00 am

Who is invited? Everyone is welcome to join us for the launch.

The stunning image featured is by John Peacock, who trained in Fashion and History of Costume before spending his career as a Costume Designer with the BBC in London. He has also written extensively on the history of costume and related subjects. John's work focuses on stitched collage, combining period fabrics, stained and oiled brown paper, coloured papers, and newspaper. His intricate pieces are often enhanced with coloured inks, dyes, paint, and bleach, evoking the weathered textures of old folklore and the organic elements of the earth.

If you cannot make it to the opening morning, there is no need to worry. The gallery will be open to view every weekend throughout July, August and September, offering a peaceful space to reconnect with these tactile, mythic stories.

Alongside the exhibition, we will also be hosting a series of workshop events, many of which will be run directly by the exhibiting artists themselves.

By honoring ancient skills that take time to master, her work focuses deeply on reflection and the process of creation itself. This deliberate pace allows for truly meaningful connections with our environment, our community, and the traditions we pass on.
