The Rise and Fall of Dublin’s Golden Age, beautifully performed by students from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, using two Irish instruments from our collection - the 1774 piano by Saxon-turned-Dubliner Ferdinand Weber and the c.1793-4 piano by the Dublin maker William Southwell. For our penultimate concert this season, two pianos come together: the 19th century Russian Becker piano and Johann Christian Bach’s piano by Zumpe & Buntebart, London, 1777-78. Dmitrii Kalashnikov and Mira Yevtich join forces with the programme of Mozart, Liszt and Beethoven

Happy Birthday Jean-Philippe Rameau (b. 1683)! Built by Andreas Ruckers in Antwerp in 1636, this harpsichord was widened in compass so a Flemish instrument of the previous century could carry the French repertoire of Rameau's day. The Ruckers family were the greatest of all harpsichord makers, and this is perhaps the finest instrument in our collection.

This Thursday our c.1886 Jakob Becker grand comes back into use. Becker was the maker Tchaikovsky admired and kept himself, so hearing The Seasons on this instrument, played by Ekaterina Derzhavina, will be a truly authentic and memorable experience.

Also on the programme: Haydn's Variations in F minor, written in the shadow of Mozart's death.
