It’s your last chance to see Design and Disability! 📢

Closing on Sunday, this exhibition celebrates disabled-led design and calls for action in embedding the experiences and expertise of disabled, deaf and neurodivergent people in design processes.

For its run here in Dundee, it features a range of Scottish design stories and you can hear from the designers and artists on why you should come see the exhibition.

Théâtre de la Mode 👗

Created in 1945 in Paris, Théâtre de la Mode was an initiative that brought together 40 Parisian designers to create a fashion-show-in-miniature shown at the Louvre Museum.

Standing at 70cm tall and dressed by designers including Balenciaga, the dolls played a vital role in reviving the French fashion industry after the Second World War. These dolls would then go on to tour around Europe and North America.

This concept was also revived during the pandemic to showcase new work when it wasn’t possible to stage formal fashion shows as we know them.

On display in the UK for the first time, you can see these beautiful Balenciaga pieces up close in our Catwalk exhibition.

Open now: The Room 🌈

Co-designed by local Dundonians with learning disabilities, this vibrant new sensory space invites visitors to play, create, explore and unwind.

With music, colour, touch, light, drawing, soft sculptures and spaces to pause, The Room celebrates creativity, self-expression and choice for everyone.

“The room was made for play, sensory exploration, feeling, laughter, rest, friendship, mess, expression and choice.”

This free exhibition is on now in our Designer in Residence Studio until 31 October.

Huge thanks to (josa)Finni Porter Chambers, Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities, Zoe Gibson, Reeves & Bond and Jamie Stein MISTD for helping bring the project to life.

WOW... can you believe V&A Dundee is 8 years old?

A massive thank you to everyone who’s wished us a happy birthday and to every single person who has visited, taken part, shared a post, joined a workshop, or supported us along the way. 💛

Together, we’ve welcomed 2.6 million visitors since opening, delivered 13 exhibitions and displays this year, hosted 200 events and workshops, and engaged 35,000 people through our communities, families and schools programmes.

From unforgettable exhibitions to inspiring conversations, creativity and connection have been at the heart of everything we do. Here’s to the next chapter of inspiring through design!

V&A Dundee curator Meredith More features as a guest expert in four episodes of the latest BBC 2 iPlayer series, A House Through Time Edinburgh with historian David Olusoga.

Revealing the secret life of a 250-year-old house on Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Meredith investigates the stories behind many of the house's domestic objects. These include a book of photographs of Scottish landscapes taken by one of the house owners, a piano, lady's work box, all the way through to a programme for the Edinburgh International Festival when it first began in 1947.

In this clip Meredith looks at a luxury item for the time, a candlestick phone owned by the Anthony family who lived in the house in the 1910's, which would have transformed the way Annie and her daughter Mary ran their business.
