We sat down with Hannah Laing to find out what object she would put in to our 2028 Scottish Design Gallery 🙌🏼

Dundee-born DJ and producer Hannah Laing has become one of the UK’s leading music artists. From Ibiza residencies to major festival stages and BBC Radio 1. She’s never forgotten her roots and champions her hometown of Dundee and all of the people in it bringing DOOF in the park to our very own city with over 17,000 attending ❤️

We loved hearing about her very first set of decks which she would love to have on display in the museum.

Our 2028 Public call out closes this Monday 31 of August and you have until then to submit your own object and help us reflect the lives, creativity and culture of people in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

To submit a personal object, send us an email to [email protected] and let us know in the comments below 👇🏼

We’re very sad to hear the news of the passing of artist Jim Pattison RSA.

Jim was a Dundee-born artist who trained first in Architecture and then in Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, he went on to teach Fine Art there for over twenty years, following a decade of school teaching across the country.

For the Tartan exhibition at V&A Dundee, Pattison contributed Vestiarium Scoticum: Maide Dealbh (2015), an acrylic work on canvas and wood exploring the mathematical and graphical notation of tartan patterns, or setts. The piece drew on the folkloric idea of "pattern sticks", threads wound around wooden rods as a means of encoding and transmitting precise tartan patterns before written record. Elsewhere in his practice, Pattison designed new tartan setts using data drawn from his own family history and DNA.

His work has been shown extensively with the Royal Scottish Academy, of which he was an Academician, and at venues including Edinburgh Printmakers, Glasgow Print Studio, and many others across Scotland.

📣 Scotland Fashion Now: Graduate Showcase is less than two weeks away!

We caught up with four emerging designers from Scotland’s leading fashion schools and this is a selection of ones to watch 👀

is a Belfast-based unisex designer creating narrative-led collections inspired by growing up during The Troubles. His work explores culture, history and human resilience through powerful storytelling.

Abbie Smith ( ) fuses traditional Scottish dress and Highland ceremonial objects with music and subculture, creating dark, atmospheric collections rich in narrative.

Eve Sinclair-McNally ( ) is a Scottish knitwear designer whose work draws on contemporary dance, exploring the relationship between movement, the body and textile.

Oliver Milne (.creates ) is a menswear designer balancing bold expression with subtlety. His collection challenges perceptions of masculinity, allowing the wearer to become part of the design.

🎟️ Tickets are available now for our Graduate Showcase via the link in bio . Join us on Thursday 3 September and discover the future of fashion in Scotland.

What would you put into our Scottish Design Gallery? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

For Dundee Sole owner Kris Boyle, an object can hold a whole life: family, place, memory, style and the people who believed in you.

His Granda’s walking book tells a story of Dundee, of working-class life, of hills walked, weather noted, handwriting remembered, and the everyday things that shape who we are.

We’re asking people across Dundee and beyond: what object tells your story?

Submit an object to the 2028 Public Call Out for the new Scottish Design Galleries and help us reflect the lives, creativity and culture of people in Scotland.

To submit a personal object, send us an email to [email protected] by 31 August 2026.
