Costume of the Month - Dundee REP & Scottish Dance Theatre - Emily James.

This Tay Bridge theatre production costume consists of a green bodice and skirt in a Victorian design with two petticoats and a hat, designed by Emily James.

The Tay Bridge production at the Dundee Rep Theatre is a poignant and moving portrayal of the tragic events of December 28th, 1879, when the Tay Bridge collapsed. Plunging a train of passengers into the raging waters of the River Tay. The play, written by Peter Arnott and directed by Andrew Panton, is a semi-fictionalized story that explores the lives of the seven passengers and crew who lost their lives on the fateful night. The play honours the victims of the disaster and is a testament to the theatre’s commitment to telling stories that resonate with the community.

We are honoured to display such meaningful pieces of Dundee’s history within our ‘Curtain Call: Costumes from Stage and Screen’ exhibition.

This FREE show is on until the 15th November so make sure you set some time aside to come along and see all the amazing pieces we have on display.

VACMA applications are now live! Bursaries of up to £1000 are available to assist Dundee artists & craft makers in their creative/professional development.

Exciting news!

Leisure & Culture Dundee has been awarded £60,000 in funding from Museums Galleries Scotland's Museum Development Fund for a new project, Generation Timex – Exploring the legacies of Timex in Dundee.

Using the museum’s Timex collection, The McManus will explore the history of Timex by working with former employees and partners across the city to create a collaborative exhibition.

We have awarded £684,108 to 12 museums across the country through the latest round of the Museum Development Fund.
