Back to school, but for grown-ups. There’s something about the end of the summer holidays that still makes me want a new notebook, a fancy pen and all the little rituals of a fresh start. It also feels like a very good time to look at the place you actually work.
We spend so much time thinking about the art in our living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms and then somehow easily tolerate a blank wall and an ugly bin beside the desk we sit at for hours every day.
So Vintage Edit Vol. 6 on The Trove is all about making a workspace somewhere you actually want to be.
I’ve pulled together some of my favourite working spaces and the ideas I’m stealing from them: stacked paintings, gallery walls around tiny desks, art in your direct eyeline, antique bureaus, beautiful lighting and practical things that absolutely do not need to look practical.
And then I’ve gone shopping. Vintage desks, desk chairs, lamps, letter racks, paperweights, perpetual calendars and wastepaper baskets, mixed with a few very good new notebooks, pens, box files and books.
There are nearly 50 finds in the full edit, with plenty of vintage amongst them.
