What makes a monster?

This year’s Golden Days explores monstrosity and evil – and why we’re so drawn to it.

Join us at CC for an evening exploring the monstrous: as myth, as history, and as something lived in the body, from the perspectives of artists rooted in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland).

CC Director Marie Laurberg is joined by Jessie Kleemann and Martin Brandt Hansen for a conversation, followed by Kleemann’s performance Qivittoq, embodying the Inuit myth of the outcast mountain wanderer.

Explore CC’s new exhibition Fire & Ice – On Belonging and Becoming in Kalaallit Nunaat, which centers on works by contemporary artists who live, work, and have ties to Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland).

The event ticket gives you access to the entire art center, where you can explore works by Camille Henrot, James Turrell, and Kengo Kuma and Associates.

A DJ set closes out the evening.

In the Veins (2026) by Camille Henrot, is a film that deals with raising children in a time of climate crisis and mass extinction 🫀

The film had its Scandinavian premiere at Copenhagen Contemporary for Paper Planes. The film interweaves the artist’s personal experiences with ecological crisis and the increasing pressures on all aspects of family life, caregiving and the protection of children and wildlife.

Grounded in Henrot’s experience of motherhood, the film reflects on care, responsibility and the survival of future generations in a world shaped by climate collapse and mass extinction.

NEW EXHIBITION COMING TO CC

Fire & Ice: On Belonging and Becoming in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland)

In Fire & Ice, voices with Greenlandic ties take centre stage. In a time when the country occupies more space in the world than ever before – but rarely gets to speak for itself – the exhibition asks one simple, big question: what does it mean to belong? To a country, a lineage, a language.

The exhibition together eight prominent and emerging contemporary artists with ties to Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland). Through immersive video works, sculpture, photography, performance and installation, the exhibition explores personal stories of belonging, identity, climate and colonial legacy.

Opening 10 September.

Participating artists:

Martin Brandt Hansen
Emilia Sølvsten
Inuuteq Storch
Jessie Kleemann
Inuk Silis Høegh
”Eriaqisaq” Kim Kleist-Eriksen
Lisbeth Karline Poulsen
Julie Edel Hardenberg

At the entrance to Paper Planes, a pack of dogs awaits you 🐕‍🦺

Camille Henrot’s sculpture series ‘Dogs’ features leashed figures that seem to guard the exhibition, or perhaps wait for an owner who never came back. Some sit patiently, others pull at their leads, some seem ready to play.
The dogs are made from materials including papier-mâché, wax, aluminium and wood, each suggesting its own breed and personality.

Through the image of the dog, Henrot reflects on care and dependency. The dogs seem to guard the space, yet they’re the ones left tied up, dependent on an owner who isn’t there. Who is really taking care of whom?

“I’m not in the business of making people feel better about themselves or comfortable”

Ann-Sofie Back (SE) reimagines everyday objects as clothing, deconstructing 20 years of her own collections into new, uncomfortable shapes. ‘Go as You Please’ spans 1998 to now, built from scorched mannequins, autopsy tables, wigs and death masks bearing Back’s own face.

Every sculpture carries a tag, like those used in a morgue. Death runs through the work both literally and figuratively – Back had buried her fashion career, and recently faced mortality up close.

On view now at CC, as part of Shapeshifters — Magic in Art & Fashion. In collaboration with and with support from
