Please join us for the opening reception of ‘Horizon Beyond’, a solo exhibition by Martha Skou, opening this Friday August 14, from 5-8 PM.

For this exhibition, Skou has created two freestanding textile sculptures that continue her sculptural investigations presented at Horsens Art Museum. While more intimately scaled, the sculptures possess the gradient colour transitions that have become a signature visual element in her practice, embodying ideas of movement, time, and healing energy while demonstrating both the fragility and strength of materials. By stretching soft textiles into tight forms, Skou explores the relationship between softness and structure.

Bricks Gallery is pleased to present ‘It Wouldn’t Be the Same Without You’, a solo exhibition by Jon Erik Nyholm, with an opening reception on Friday, August 14, from 5-8 PM. This exhibition features seven oil paintings on canvas, all framed in waxed oak.

In Jon Erik Nyholm’s series of new paintings, a number of questions seem to arise regarding the motifs. However, more important than the questions themselves is their order and hierarchy.

First, the functions of nature dissolve, such as flowers blooming and withering once more. The plant stems become cracks in a mirror, boding misfortune. We ask if humanity is to blame, but it appears subject to the same regime of dissolved and dismantled functions. [...]

NOW OPEN

For the 2026 edition of other circle, in collaboration with Enter Art Fair, Bricks Gallery presents works by Inka Bell, Mathias Malling Mortensen, and Rune Brink exploring the interplay between materiality and space.

Bringing together diverse artworks in different media, this presentation investigates how different materials shape, define, and alter our physical and sensory environments. It demonstrates how a space is not merely empty air, but something actively constructed through the material traces of the artworks within it.

Inka Bell explores the architectural possibilities of paper. Her hand-assembled geometric pieces carry physical traces of their own making, transforming flat surfaces into three-dimensional forms that challenge our spatial perception. Mathias Malling Mortensen further expands this dialogue on canvas. By blending rich pigments of blue, his paintings trick the eye; the intense surface transcends the flat paint, creating a depth that seems to exist both deep behind the canvas and projected out into the physical space before it. In contrast, Rune Brink’s light installations use immaterial light, altering the experience of our surroundings while navigating the distinction between natural spaces and those that are man-made.

Together, the three artists invite the viewer to explore how space is never fixed - it is a living dialogue between material, trace, and perception.

Happy Birthday to gallery artist Martha Skou, who was born on this day in 1982.

Martha Skou’s work explores themes of transition, rhythm, and interconnectedness through a material-based investigation of natural and systemic forces. Her practice examines how we experience and sense the energies that shape our environment - such as the movement of tides or the warmth of sunlight. Working across textile, stoneware, glass, and sound, Skou reflects on the relationship between internal states and external structures.

New works on paper by Sune Christiansen have just arrived at the gallery.

Sune Christiansen (b. 1976) is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has developed a signature approach to figurative abstraction that is both obscure and playful. With vibrant, expressive colors, his works capture a distorted reality - inviting viewers to form their own opinions and interpretations.

Bricks Gallery is pleased to present ‘MONOCHROME’, a group exhibition featuring works by Adele Rannes, Galina Munroe, Inka Bell, Jakob Oksbjerg, Jakob Steen, Jon Erik Nyholm, Loren Erdrich, Louise Foo, Martha Hviid, Martha Skou, Mathias Malling Mortensen, Mikkel Ørsted, Morten Modin, Morten Plesner, Peter Larsen, Rune Brink, Simona Popovic, Sune Christiansen and Theis Wendt, with an opening reception on Friday, June 12 from 18-20.

What happens when a painter abandons the full spectrum, a sculptor commits entirely to black, or a photographer hands themselves over to a single, unexpected tone?

‘MONOCHROME’ started out as a straightforward challenge, a group of artists each asked to work with just one dominant colour. Simple in theory. Anything but in practice.

While some of the participating artists have always worked this way, others took it on as a willing constraint, a chance to strip things back and see what remains when colour stops competing with itself. What emerges, across the whole show, is just how much a single colour can hold: how charged it becomes, how physical, how surprisingly emotional.

29/05/2026

The graduation show from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts is now open at Kunsthal Charlottenborg and we’re thrilled to congratulate Simona Popovic and the entire graduating class of 2026.

For her graduation work, Torsdags Åndedræt, 2026, Simona built a complete set, transported five tons of soil into a rented location, and directed hired actors in their finest clothes around a fully dressed dinner table. A radical shift from her usual quiet, observational snapshots.

The result is an eight meter triptych accompanied by a poem, stemming from a memory of her mother’s childhood: a family that dressed up every Thursday and dined together, unseen by the outside world. The work asks how we construct ourselves as families, what we perform for each other, and what quietly slips away in the process.

The work is on view at Kunsthal Charlottenborg as part of the MFA Degree Show until 9 August 2026.

We look forward to showing new works by Simona Popovic in our upcoming group exhibition MONOCHROME, opening 12 June, 2026.

For more information about her practice or available works, contact us at **[email protected]**
