We warmly invite you to the opening of

´Burn not the flowers´
A solo exhibition by Helen Joy Rogers

In this exhibition, Helen brings together ceramics, painting and collage to explore memories, feelings, sensations and dreams.

Rather than working towards a fixed theme, the artist allows intuition and chance to guide the making. Images emerge from the subconscious and are brought together through painting and collage, giving form to experiences that can otherwise be difficult to articulate.

Burn not the flowers is an exploration of the space between the physical and the psychological — and of the fragile process of giving form to what exists within us.

Join us for an artist talk and the finissage of ´A Leg and a Wing to Save the King´
Friday, October 9

We invite you for an evening where Friday bar meets Birmingham pints and marmite toasties. Daniel van der Noon will do a short artist talk in dialogue with curator Sigurrós Eiðsdóttir as we say goodbye to his exhibition. Questions welcome at the end!

A Leg and a Wing to Save the King is a series of paintings and drawings inspired by a childhood in Birmingham, the show runs until October 12th.

Bar opens at 17:00.
Artist talk at 18:00.

“I started looking through family videos.
I found myself caught up on details about things whose importance might be difficult to explain to anyone else: the mention of my obsession with black cabs, my imaginary friend, Gordon; the hazy memory of the fighter jet passing overhead, almost floating, while l picked blackberries with Nan at the caravan; that thunderstorm on the beach in Wales, the smell inside the Sierra Sapphire; Grampa’s Nissan Cherry; rose bushes; the low, lulling sound of football commentators on televisions, my mother singing “Soldier, Soldier”.”
