NANNA RIIS ANDERSEN AT ART ON PAPER BRUSSELS
For this year’s Art on Paper Brussels, we are presenting a selection of new works by Nanna Riis Andersen – ranging from more intimate works on paper to the large-scale Pelvic Sky (2026).
We have worked closely with Nanna for several years, and have followed the way her practice continues to unfold across painting, drawing and sculpture. At the centre of her work is an ongoing exploration of the body and its surroundings – and of those transitional states where body, landscape, plant life and imagined organisms seem to merge.
Working in layers of transparent colour, drawing and fluid, organic forms, Nanna builds compositions that move between abstraction and recognition. Fragments may suggest shells, vertebrae, plants, bodily structures or underwater organisms, only to dissolve again into colour and movement. There is a constant play between what feels familiar and what remains impossible to fully identify.
In the works presented in Brussels, this language takes very different forms: from the dense, almost enveloping space of Pelvic Sky and the saturated reds of Portal, to the more open and fragile structures of Untitled (Song) and Sprouting. Across them, forms expand, overlap and grow into one another – as if the image itself were still in the process of becoming.
Following Nanna’s recent exhibition Skin, Shape, Shelter at Formation Gallery, we are very happy to continue the conversation here in Brussels and to introduce these works to a new audience.
