Founded in 1977, Galleri Image is Scandinavia’s oldest fine-art photography non-profit exhibition space. Galleri Image has been a pioneer in the photographic field ever since its foundation. In order to disseminate knowledge of photography as well as creative and high quality installation and video art, Galleri Image displays both national and international art. The gallery presents established ar

tists, as well as spots and supports young talents. Galleri Image has frequently co-operated with other major presences on the Danish and international art scenes. Galleri Image has arranged several travelling exhibitions. The gallery has participated in various international art photography festivals, portfolio reviews and conferences around the world. Galleri Image presents between six and eight exhibitions each year. The program includes touring, and externally curated and self-produced exhibitions of work by artists from Denmark and abroad. During each exhibition the gallery hosts one or more events relating to the current exhibition. These events range from artist talks and lectures to discussions, seminars and workshops. The Demo Room is Galleri Image’s 24-hours-a-day-display-window that faces Vestergade. Here, one can enjoy photo, video and installation art. A tiny room allowing only a few remedies, the demo room compels the artists to be extremely creative and ingenious in order to exhibit their works, and still be able to attain impact and visibility. Galleri Image receives operational grants from City of Aarhus and The Danish Arts Foundation. Since 2014, Galleri Image and the Aarhus School of Architecture have collaborated on organising Photobook Week Aarhus (PWA). PWA focuses on the rapidly growing international interest in photobooks in recent years and represents a continuous study of the evolution and role of the medium. Galleri Image is the founder of PWA festival.
