Lars Sarto Hempler (b. 1978) graduated from the University of the Arts in London in 2000 and from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006. He has exhibited in many places both nationally and internationally, most recently in Paris and Chicago. He lives and works in Aarhus.

Lars Sarto Hempler’s works are often a complex interplay of many different colours, shapes and materials. The works, which lie somewhere between figuration and abstraction, are collages of impressions and stories that the artist draws from many places. All these impressions appear in flashes and emerge as familiar shapes, which in the interplay with the abstractions cause new stories to arise. Lars Sarto Hempler’s works are like when your gaze falls on, for example, an old building with a long history. For the inner gaze, the past can appear and for a while become part of the present we find ourselves in.

The exhibition The Garden of Forking Paths is on view until June 13.

Lars Sarto Hempler (f. 1978) er uddannet på University of Arts i London i 2000 og på Det Jyske Kunstakademi i 2006. Han har udstillet mange steder både i nationalt og internationalt, senest både Paris og Chicago. Han bor og arbejder i Aarhus.

Lars Sarto Hemplers værker er ofte et komplekst sammenspil af mange forskellige farver, former og materialer. Værkerne, der befinder sig et sted mellem figuration og abstraktion, er collager af indtryk og fortællinger, som kunstneren henter mange steder fra. Alle disse indtryk optræder i glimt og dukker frem som velkendte former, der i sammenspillet med abstraktionerne får nye fortællinger til at opstå. Lars Sarto Hemplers værker er, som når blikket falder på for eksempel en gammel bygning med en lang historie. For det indre blik kan fortiden dukke op og for en stund blive en del af den nutid, vi befinder os i.

Udstillingen The Garden of Forking Paths kan ses til og med den 13. juni 2026.
