GALERIE FÜR KLASSISCHE UND ZEITGENÖSSISCHE FOTOGRAFIE

Die Bildhalle, im Jahre 2013 von Mirjam Cavegn gegründet und eine der heute angesehensten Galerien für Fotografie in der Schweiz, stellt sich bewusst der Verantwortung einer langen Schweizer Tradition gegenüber der Fotografie und ihrer Verbreitung als künstlerisches Medium und vertritt entsprechend konsequent herausragende Positionen des 20.

Im Oktober 2020 eröffnet die Bildhalle einen zweiten Standort in Amsterdam. Ziel ist es, die bestehenden Beziehungen zu holländischen und europäischen Kunden zu festigen und auszubauen. Die Galerie wird in Holland eine Auswahl von holländischen und internationalen Künstlern und Künstlerinnen ausstellen. Im Wechselspiel zwischen ausgewählten etablierten Vertretern der klassischen Fotografie und denen einer jüngeren Generation, die das Medium permanent zu erweitern versuchen, gestaltet Mirjam Cavegn ein ambitioniertes Galerieprogramm, mit dem Anspruch, durch Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen sowie internationale Messebeteiligungen die Wahrnehmung und Anerkennung künstlerischer Fotografie positiv zu beeinflussen.

GALLERY FOR CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Bildhalle, founded by Mirjam Cavegn in 2013 and one of today’s most respected galleries for photography in Switzerland, deliberately takes on the responsibility of a long-standing Swiss tradition regarding photography and its distribution as an artistic medium. Thus, it represents outstanding classic and contemporary positions with the necessary consequence. In October 2020, Bildhalle will run a second gallery in Amsterdam, thus consolidating its good relations in the Dutch and European markets. The gallery will show a well curated selection of Dutch and international artists – both young talents and established photographers. In the interplay between selected established photographers of the 20th Century and those of a younger generation that aims to keep extending the medium, Mirjam Cavegn shapes an ambitious gallery program with the objective to positively influence the reception and recognition of artistic photography through solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fair participations and publishing high quality photo books.

Opening soon: Echoes, a solo exhibition by Dutch artist Margaret Lansink

Bringing together recent bodies of work, Echoes explores the delicate relationship between
landscape, memory, and time. While rooted in photography, Lansink’s practice extends into
painting, collage, and sculpture, transforming her images of nature into layered reflections on perception, impermanence, and our connection to the natural world.

“The Netherlands has a rich tradition of lace and textile making, a craft that has been closely connected to women’s lives and labour for centuries. In our latest work “Bonnet”, we use textiles not only as a material, but also as a carrier of a history of female knowledge, craftsmanship, and care. By weaving the symbolic meaning of textiles into contemporary forms, we explore how femininity has been represented through images over time, while also drawing attention to the labour that has often remained in the background. The work refers both to the tradition of textile production and to the role of lace in visual culture, where it frequently appears as a sign of identity, status, and female presence. In this way, we seek to build a bridge between the tangible world of soft textiles and the visual language of images, where touch and sight are closely intertwined.”

“How is it that all the knowledge humanity has accumulated over the centuries so rarely leads to wisdom?”

This fundamental question forms the starting point of Ode to Days of Wisdom, a new site-specific art installation by Laurence Aëgerter, on view at the Grote Kerk Alkmaar from 6 June to 6 September 2026.

For this project, Aëgerter draws inspiration from the history of the Librije of the Grote Kerk, a rare example of an early modern public library, where books were consulted by the community for centuries. The Librije was a place for the sharing of knowledge, encounter, and dialogue, embedded within the church as a public space. At a time when knowledge and information are increasingly distorted by algorithms and artificial intelligence, and when misinformation is spreading, this history takes on renewed urgency.

In her installation, Aëgerter reflects on knowledge as a shared resource, on memory, and on its transmission across generations. Her work brings together historical imagery and contemporary questions about responsibility, connectedness, and wisdom, while exploring how easily people today can be led astray in their search for insight and meaning.

The Space Between brings together works from Casper Faassen’s acclaimed Landscape and Movement series. Through a subtle dialogue between these two bodies of work, the exhibition explores the relationship between presence, absence and the space in between.

The selection of landscapes, botanical studies and new movement works presented in this exhibition reveal the subtle connections running throughout Casper Faassen’s practice and visual language; it is shaped by the Japanese notion of Ma – the understanding that empty space is never empty, but holds as much meaning as the forms it surrounds. Bringing together landscapes, including works from the Swiss Alps, alongside newly produced movement studies made in collaboration with principal dancer of Ballett Zürich Ayaha Tsunaki, the exhibition reflects Faassen’s ongoing exploration of the void as a space of possibility.
