Since its establishment in 1992, Galerie Urs Meile has contributed to the presentation and dissemination of international and especially Chinese contemporary art from two locations: Lucerne, Switzerland and Beijing, China.

We are pleased to announce ‘Time Out of Joint’, a group exhibition bringing together Chen Sixin, Liu Shunjia, Qin Shanjun, Wendi Yan, Zhou Jiangnan, and Meng Zhou, opening on Saturday, October 31, from 4 pm at our Beijing gallery. 
Developed through ongoing conversations with the six artists over the past few years, the exhibition takes excavation as a metaphor for time, exploring a suspended state in which linear chronology gives way to the overlapping of past, present, and future.
At a moment when familiar structures are shifting and new ones have yet to emerge, the artists approach this unsettled present through three pairs of parallel yet interconnected paths, offering different perspectives on time, memory, and transformation.

🔥Artist Talk: Rebekka Steiger & Jacqueline Burckhardt🔥 
We are pleased to announce an artist talk with Rebekka Steiger and art historian and critic Jacqueline Burckhardt on Thursday, October 29, at 6 pm, at Galerie Urs Meile, Zurich Ankerstrasse. 
Taking place on the occasion of Steiger’s solo exhibition ‘Horsehair takes a long time to burn’, the conversation offers an opportunity to gain further insight into the artist’s practice and the new body of work developed following her seven-month residency in Beijing.

The conversation will be held in German and followed by an apéro.  No RSVP is necessary.

Happy birthday, dear Tobias Kaspar!

Tobias Kaspar has developed a distinctive multidisciplinary practice spanning photography, sculpture, installation, publishing, performance, and design. Moving between art, fashion, and everyday life, his work explores how images, objects, and identities are produced, presented, and circulated. Through subtle gestures of appropriation and transformation, Kaspar questions the mechanisms that shape desire, taste, and cultural value, often blurring the boundaries between artistic production, exhibition-making, and systems of consumption.

On the occasion of his birthday, we are also happy to highlight his current exhibition, ‘Unconditional’, at Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

🍋Opening tomorrow: Klodin Erb – Un citron dans la peau🍋 
We are delighted to share that Klodin Erb’s solo exhibition ‘Un citron dans la peau’ opens tomorrow, Saturday, October 10, at Ferme-Asile in Sion. The exhibition is curated by Céline Eidenbenz. 
The exhibition will also be accompanied by a special reading performance on November 14, featuring Kayije Kagame performing ‘Dictionnaire’ by Eva Seck, loosely inspired by Klodin Erb’s works.

Happy birthday, dear Mai Ta! 
On the occasion of her birthday, we are also very happy to officially welcome Mai Ta to Galerie Urs Meile’s roster of artists! 
Born in 1997 in Ho Chi Minh City, where she continues to live and work, Mai Ta has developed a deeply personal painterly language rooted in memory, emotion, and inner experience. Working primarily with gouache and oil paint, she transforms fragments of memory, fleeting sensations, desires, and vulnerabilities into intimate and psychologically charged visual worlds. 
Her paintings create a space in which emotions that are difficult to articulate can take form. Beauty and loss, tenderness and melancholy, desire and fear coexist, while personal experiences remain partially veiled through atmosphere and symbolic imagery. At the heart of her practice is an understanding of art as a protected space of freedom, one in which vulnerability and contradiction can exist without the need for resolution.
We are delighted to begin this new chapter together and look forward to accompanying Mai’s practice and sharing more of her work with you.

Happy birthday to Xie Qi!

Born in Chongqing and now based in Beijing, Xie Qi has developed a distinctive painterly practice centred on the body and portraiture. Moving between recollection and creation, her paintings transform friends, everyday objects, found photographs, and familiar motifs into psychologically charged images shaped by emotion, desire, and memory. Through concealed brushstrokes, blurred contours, and elusive colours, figures seem to emerge and dissolve across the surface, creating an atmosphere that is at once intimate, mysterious, and suspended in time.

On the occasion of her birthday, we are also happy to highlight two exhibitions currently featuring her work:

Happy birthday, dear Chen Zuo!🎂🎂

Born in 1990 in Hunan, China, Chen Zuo has developed a distinctive painterly language that combines precise technique and disciplined composition with emotion, ambiguity, and unexpected associations.

Drawing inspiration from shapes, colours, objects, and memories, Chen Zuo transforms seemingly familiar elements into images that can be metaphorical, ironic, or lyrical. His paintings reflect on individual experience within the pressures and transformations of contemporary society, informed in particular by his experience of China’s urbanisation.
