Since its establishment in 1992, Galerie Urs Meile has contributed to the presentation and dissemination of international and especially Chinese contemporary art from two locations: Lucerne, Switzerland and Beijing, China.

Happy birthday dear Hu Qingyan!

Born in 1982 in Shandong, China, Hu Qingyan has developed a distinctive sculptural practice exploring the relationships between form, material, reproduction, and perception. Working primarily with marble, a material traditionally associated with permanence and monumentality, he transforms ordinary objects into meticulously crafted sculptures, inviting us to look again at the familiar and reconsider the social and psychological realities embedded within everyday life.

His work has been presented internationally at institutions including M+ Museum, Hong Kong; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Guangdong Museum of Art; Wuhan Art Museum; and Today Art Museum, Beijing, and is held in numerous major public and private collections.

Loredana Sperini Holding Things Together September 17 – November 7, 2026 Galerie Urs Meile, Zurich Rämistrasse

Opening: Thursday, September 17, 6–9 pm 
We are pleased to announce ‘Holding Things Together’, Loredana Sperini’s first solo exhibition with our gallery, opening on Thursday, September 17, as part of the Z1 Season Opening on Rämistrasse. 
Bringing together a new body of work, the exhibition moves across ceramic, metal, wax, cement, and textile. Ceramic forms hang in delicate balance from metal mobiles, sculptural interventions transform chairs, while wax-covered cement panels and textile compositions extend Sperini’s exploration of material, form, and the body.

Galerie Urs Meile is pleased to present ‘Horsehair takes a long time to burn’, a solo exhibition by Swiss artist Rebekka Steiger.

Developed following the artist’s seven-month residency in Beijing, which concluded this March, the exhibition brings together a new group of paintings alongside, for the first time in Steiger’s practice, six photographs. Across these works, animals, landscape, memory, and mortality merge into unstable and emotionally charged scenes.

We are pleased to announce two exhibitions opening simultaneously at our Beijing gallery: 
Cai Dongdong Mount of Time August 29 – October 18, 2026 
Presenting a new body of work rooted in film photography and spanning photography, installation, and mixed media, ‘Mount of Time’ continues Cai Dongdong’s exploration of the relationships between images, materials, and lived experience. The exhibition brings into focus connections between the body, family, labor, memory, and history. 
Han Yong Landscape As Body August 29 – October 18, 2026 
Marking Han Yong’s first exhibition with Galerie Urs Meile, ‘Landscape As Body’ brings together works from different periods of the artist’s practice. Moving between body, spirit, and landscape, the exhibition explores how personal experiences, emotions, and memories become intertwined with the external world.

We are excited to share that Klodin Erb will be part of ‘3 × 2: Fokus Winterthur’ at Kunst Museum Winterthur, Reinhart am Stadtgarten, opening tomorrow August 13 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm🔥 
Launching the new exhibition format, Klodin Erb and Esther Mathis will be the first two artistic positions presented in a series dedicated to artists from Winterthur and the surrounding region.   Their works will be on view from August 14 to September 6, 2026.
