Was für eine (lange) Nacht! Danke an alle, die mit uns Kunst, Musik und Austausch gefeiert haben an der Langen Nacht der Zürcher Museen. In der Kunsthalle Zürich gab es die Möglichkeit die Ausstellung von Henrik Olesen in diversen Rundgängen zu entdecken, an einem Papierwebe-Workshop mit Alba Sulser teilzunehmen oder ein Konzert von Amos Angeles und Fai Baba zu hören. Bis zum nächsten Mal!

What a (long) night! Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating art, music and exchange during the Long Night of Zurich’s Museums. At Kunsthalle Zurich our audience had the opportunity to discover Henrik Olesen’s exhibition through various tours, take part in a paper-weaving workshop with Alba Sulser or listen to a concert by Amos Angeles and Fai Baba. The works presented on the upper floor of Kunsthalle Zürich invert the logic of the lower level. While the white walls downstairs remain empty and untouched, the exhibition upstairs unfolds around an empty centre, limned by 24 hand-made glass vitrines on the walls. If the works on the lower floor investigate processes of production and consumption as well as the plasticity of objects, the upper floor turns the focus towards the supposed neutrality of methods of presentation and display.
Yet instead of protecting objects or artefacts the vitrines appear – with a few exceptions – to be empty. Mounted with hefty brackets to the walls of Kunsthalle Zürich, they frame no more than the air inside, the white wall behind each and their own means of suspension, thereby becoming images of themselves. Marked by worn surfaces, fingerprints, scratches and imperfect joints they no longer function as simple containers. Instead, traces of production together with notes on Post-its and adhesive tape transform them into carriers of information about their own making.

This week, students explore Henrik Olesen’s exhibition “Copies of real-life objects, tools and food” as part of the summer holiday course at Kunsthalle Zürich. Inspired by the artworks, participants experiment with a wide range of creative techniques, including printmaking, jewellery making, photocopy experiments, upcycling and recycling, collage, drawing with coffee, weaving and light installations. In the Kunsthalle Zürich studio, the young participants can follow their own interests, develop ideas further and try out new approaches. They also have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and explore spaces that are normally hidden from visitors.

Diese Woche entdecken Schüler:innen die Ausstellung “Copies of real-life objects, tools and food” von Henrik Olesen im Rahmen des Ferienkurses in der Kunsthalle Zürich. Ausgehend von den Kunstwerken werden verschiedene kreative Techniken erprobt: Druckverfahren, Schmuckgestaltung, Fotokopie-Experimente, Up- und Recycling, Collage, Zeichnen mit Kaffee, Weben oder Lichtinstallationen. Im Kunsthalle Zürich Studio dürfen die Teilnehmenden ihren eigenen Interessen nachgehen, Ideen vertiefen und Neues ausprobieren. Dabei haben sie auch die Möglichkeit einen Blick hinter die Kulissen zu werfen und Orte zu erkunden, die sonst für Besucher:innen verborgen bleiben.
