A new season begins at Galerie Renaissance.

This September, we invite you to step into An imagined world, an exhibition of works by Mary Shalizi.

Colourful, intricate, and deeply personal, her works open the door to a visual universe inhabited by enigmatic figures, recurring symbols, and imagined narratives.
We won’t reveal too much just yet.

There are photographs that document a moment… and there are photographs that invite you to look again.

When I first encountered Didier Van Der Borght’s work, what struck me wasn’t simply the beauty of the images, but the uncertainty they create.

At first glance they appear almost sculptural, as though carved from marble or suspended in space. Then, the longer you look, the more they reveal themselves as something entirely different.

Working exclusively with photography, Didier transforms ordinary materials into abstract, almost living forms. Light, shadow and texture become his palette, dissolving the boundary between photography and sculpture.

Each work asks us to slow down. To question what we think we are seeing. To embrace ambiguity rather than search for immediate answers.

It is precisely this quiet tension that makes these photographs so compelling. They continue to reveal something new each time you return to them.

CURATOR’S PICK | EILENA BRAYE

Colour has the remarkable ability to carry emotion without depicting a single recognisable form.

As both a pathologist and artist, Eilena Braye brings a unique perspective to abstraction. Her practice is deeply informed by years of observing the microscopic world—cells, tissues, and the intricate structures that sustain life. Rather than reproducing what she sees under the microscope, she transforms these invisible systems into a visual language of colour, rhythm, and form.

Built through carefully layered surfaces and geometric compositions, her paintings invite us to slow down and look beyond the immediate image. They reveal a delicate balance between scientific precision and artistic intuition, where structure meets spontaneity and observation becomes emotion.

Within Traces of Presence, Braye’s work reminds us that some of the most profound connections are the ones we cannot see.

Bringing together seven contemporary artists working across painting, photography, abstraction, and material experimentation, 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 explores what remains: traces of memory, transformation, observation, and human experience.

Through diverse approaches and mediums, the exhibition considers presence not only through what is visible, but also through what lingers after. Fragments of everyday life, shifting landscapes, personal narratives, silhouettes, and gestures become markers of connection, fragility, and change.
