This masterpiece by the Master of Embroidered Foliage recalls the turn of the 16th century.
This idyllic world is a seductive environment for the n**e figures of Adam and Eve. Their intimacy is maliciously and graphically hidden. Yet beneath the apparent religious morality, this work must have reached a private space. Far from any obscene considerations, the lucky commissioner of this painting could appreciate the delicate representation of bodies tending towards realism: he is therefore already forgiven ... since the painter has taken care to illustrate, with repentant gaze, apple in fist and tempting snake in background, the non-respect of God’s laws!
