OPENING TONIGHT at Grand-Rue 23, Geneva
‘Crossings’
Maria Ceppi | Tami Ichino
May 28 to September 10, 2026
Public opening from 17h until 20h in the presence of the artists.

Join us today for the opening of ‘Crossings’, a joint exhibition with works by Swiss artist Maria Ceppi (b. 1963, Visp) and Japanese artist Tami Ichino (b. 1978, Fukuoka).

Presenting over thirty works, the show brings together the two artists for the first time, highlighting a shared interest in how meaning can emerge from ordinary materials and overlooked forms.

Inspired by recent travels to Japan, Ichino unveils new paintings which often feature natural objects or traces of human presence, evoking the delicate, constantly evolving relationship between civilisation and nature.

From her iconic ‘Objets Cultes’ and ‘Hybrid Shapes’ series, Ceppi’s sculptures, both small and large scale, take found, everyday objects which she transforms, either by hand or scaled up in a foundry into familiar yet uncanny creations.

GOWEN is delighted to open ‘Crossings’, a joint exhibition featuring works by Swiss artist Maria Ceppi (b. 1963, Visp) and Japanese artist Tami Ichino (b. 1978, Fukuoka).

Shown together for the very first time, the show guides a dialogue between the works of Ceppi and Ichino through a shared interest in how meaning can emerge from ordinary materials and overlooked forms. Moving beyond what is immediately visible, the works cross over and inbetween one another, revealing a changing dynamic amongst object, memory, perception, and imagination.

Unveiling new paintings by Ichino, completed over the past two years following travels to Japan, the show presents both large and small scale sculptural creations from Ceppi’s iconic ‘Hybrid Shapes’ and ‘Objets Cultes’ series.
