We are pleased to present Edwin Bighetty to do a live painting for this First Fridays in the Exchange. Feel free to stop by and watch him create art. Come and check out one of the best Indigenous art collections in Canada.
Edwin Bighetty is from the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, Pukatawagan, Manitoba. He was born in the Pas, Manitoba on September 4, 1972. Edwin was strongly influenced by his father who was a Wild Life Artist. After his father passed away, Edwin maintained a strong interest to express himself through mixed mediums which include acrylic paint, pencil, crayon, charcoal and sponge.

Edwin’s focus on Native art began in 1990. He has sold commissioned work to collectors and businesses; attended art shows; conferences, and has donated to organization. His work revolves around wild life, his culture, Native spirituality and nature scenes. He has created his own style through the help and inspiration from Elders, family and other artist.
His main goal is to provide teachings and understanding of his ancestor’s way of life, survival and spirituality. Every individual’s interpretation is a statement of knowledge within the unlimited expression of energy in creation.

Nuit Blanche Event: September 26, 6pm - midnight.
Dreams come down from the ancestors.
Presented at Canadian Plains Gallery for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg
Created by Réal Dubois.

Suspended above the viewer, ribbons of colourful fabric fall and flow from suspended dreamcatcher forms. An upward experience of movement and texture. Inspired by the intangible nature of thoughts and dreams, the installation gives physical form to the things that move through us—ideas, beliefs, memories, and feelings that are constantly shifting.

Portals into the dream world that move with the space and the presence of people around it, the installation becomes something different from every angle and with every encounter: a living expression of dreams and desires of the unconscious.

Réal is a dreamer and was guided by old dream spirits to follow the thunderbirds high into the sky to see the world better. From this elevated view she was surrounded by the immense power and mystery of the Earth, all life, and all the has ever been or will be, and this is where she found her inspiration to create.
