A Winnipeg creative hub, home to 40+ artists in 31 studios. 618 ARTlington is a unique historic space renovated with reclaimed materials.

Open by appointment and during our three annual events. Ask to join our waitlist! 618 ARTlington Studios is one of Winnipeg’s most unique and inspiring creative hubs. Originally built in 1912 for the Northland Knitting Company, the space has a rich history, having housed local businesses such as The Alpha Manufacturing Company (during WWII), Monarch Wear (and subsidiaries, 1941-56), National Upholstering (1961-78), and Ram Wools' Warehouse (1978-95). One hundred years after it was built, John Hunsberger transformed the space using reclaimed materials, eclectic antiques, tin tile, wrought iron, stained glass, exposed brick, and more. The building itself is a work of art and must be seen to be believed. It is now ome to over 30 artists in 21 studio spaces. Visit during one of our three annual events and you'll seen a wide range of mediums on display, including ceramics, painting, textiles, glass, and more! In 2025, the building was purchased by Andrew Major, with exciting plans to renovate and open up the basement and fourth floor to create even more studio spaces. Save the date for Warm & Bright, our annual holiday open house and art market, coming Dec 5 & 6!

Expect to find a cozy atmosphere and a fantastic variety of fine craft and art from over 60 Manitoba artists. With 4 floors of art space to explore, this event is perfect for art lovers, collectors, and holiday shoppers.

❄️ Warm & Bright at 618 ARTlington is Saturday Dec 5 (10am -5pm) and Sunday Dec 6 (10am-4pm).

❄️ Wandering musical performance by Anne-Marie Williot from 12-2pm both days.

❄️ $5 Admission (kids under 12 are free); tickets available at the door and online (coming soon); 50% of ticket sales will be donated to a local charity.

Thank you to Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham for coming out to our Works in Progress Culture Days Manitoba event on Saturday, and cutting the ribbon for our new feature, the Hole in the Wall Gallery. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony with MWL, he visited our other artists in their studios and had meaningful conversations with them about what they do here. We wholeheartedly appreciate the time he took to listen to us and learn about our vibrant community at 618 ARTlington! Our artists work year-round, many of them full-time (or more!), and it's events like these that let the public take a peek behind the curtain to see the hard work behind all the beautiful art.

Today is the day! Will we see you there?

Wander through 5 floors of the historic 618 ARTlington building while taking in open studios, live art demonstrations, and hands-on activities for all ages. Spaces throughout our historic building will be active with artists creating, displaying, and sharing their work. Visitors can explore the building at their own pace, stopping in to chat with artists and browse the pieces they have available for sale.

Our building and our community are like paintings on an easel or pottery on the wheel: Works in Progress. Come see what's being made on this family-friendly day of creativity, community, and art in motion during Nuit Blanche and Culture Days Manitoba.

Sarah Sue Design Fall 2026 Collection Launch: Sarah Sue Design is excited to be releasing the first drop of some new Fall 2026 pieces at Works in Progress. Soft and cozy bamboo pieces featuring some of her signature colour blocking Zero Waste pieces. Fitting rooms are available, and Sarah can help you find the perfect fit to step into fall in style.

Ceramics drop-in 30 min class with Rhoda Chan Fine Art in studio 1-8 (11 AM–3 PM): Grab a ball of clay and follow Rhoda step-by-step as you create a small pinch pot with bat wings. Choose your glaze colour, then leave your piece with Rhoda to be glazed and fired for pickup by October 30. $20 per person; approximately 30–45 minutes. The first 10 participants will also receive a free Worry Stone!

✨ Second Floor Highlights During Works in Progress✨

2-2: Felting Party at the WOOL MOUNTAIN! Watch a needle felting demo and make your own mini felted garland (between 11am to 3pm) to take home or add to our Hole-in-the-Wall Gallery. Enjoy some freshly spun “sugar wool” (cotton candy!), order a made-to-order $2 drawing from one of our young artists, or simply rest a bit before continuing your adventure through the studios (seating and washrooms are available)!

2-3: Wesley Krahn of Glasstorations is offering drop-in stained glass class (12-2pm) during the event! Van Gogh Glass with Glasstorations will let you choose your colours, learn to copper foil and tack solder the pieces together, then leave your creation with Wes for the finishing touches. $20 per person; maximum 10 participants. Wes will contact you when your finished piece is ready for pickup.

Meet our Fourth Floor Artists: River City Swing!

River City Swing is a one-stop shop for social dancing, classes, and workshops in Winnipeg. They teach swing dances (mainly Lindy Hop) from the 1920's to 1950's, as well as Blues Dancing. They encourage everyone who thinks dancing looks like a good time to give it a try! Participants don't need past dance experience and don't need partners to join in. Just show up and try your best and have fun with messing up!

🕺 Swing Dancing in the Lindy Loft on the 4th floor (11 AM–4 PM): Warm up by climbing the four flights of stairs, then get ready to dance with Swing Dance Winnipeg! Join a fun, beginner-friendly swing dance class on the 4th floor at the top of every hour, with 30 minutes of instruction followed by 30 minutes of music to practice your new moves and keep dancing. Free and open for all ages (children must have adults stay and supervise)!
