Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre Interpretive Centre about the land called Beringia. All about the Beringia and the Ice Age.

During the last glaciation, Eurasia and the American continent were connected via Beringia. A large Mammoth steppe where vast stretches lay unbroken as far as the eye can see. Envision a place where predators of staggering proportions compete with human hunters for food. Picture a land where the animals and plants struggle to survive in the cold, dry treeless expanse. Explore the treasures of that world within the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre and watch Beringia come alive.

COMING UP AT BERINGIA:
Come celebrate INTERNATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY DAY with us on Saturday, October 17, 2026 - admission is FREE 12-5 PM!

Join Long Ago Yukon and the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre for an afternoon of live flint knapping demonstrations (all day), a movie screening of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc (2 PM), and artifact and fossil ID (1-4 PM)

What is ‘artifact and fossil ID’, you ask? That is where archaeologists and palaeontologists from the Government of Yukon will be on site to help identify your mystery artifacts or fossils! 😊 So, by all means, bring that weird family heirloom or the cool rock you suspect might be a fossil- we’d love to take a look and help you learn more about it!

Due to renovations to our fire alarm system, the Beringia Centre will not be able to host the 2026 HAUNTED HALLS OF BOO-RINGIA.

The GOOD news?
The Centre will still be open for regular winter hours this month (Sat., Sun., Mon., 12-5 pm). You’ll still find mammoths and Ice Age wonder if you drop by… just significantly fewer spiders, bats, witches, and flashing lights. 🦣 🐪 🦫

The BAD news?
The ghosts and prehistoric spooks who normally invade our space the third weekend of October will be taking an unexpected vacation this Halloween, and we’ll miss out on seeing all the creative costumes!! 😈 🤖 🤡

Thanks for your understanding, and our apologies for any disruption to your Halloween plans. 🎃 🧙🏽‍♀️ 🦇

Heads up, educators!

This summer, our education team has been hard at work creating simple, fun, curriculum-connected learning experiences for K-12 classrooms inspired by the animals, environments, and stories of Beringia. Our expansive resources cover everything from geology to Ice Age survival— even touching on cloning along the way👀.

While creating these resources, we wanted to keep the needs of everyone in mind. Whether you’re a teacher looking for new in-class materials, a parent looking for educational at-home activities, or just someone who wants to learn more about the Ice Age, we have a variety of activities to suit various skill levels and needs.

And the best part? They’re completely free.

Explore the resources on our website as we continue to add more in the coming weeks: https://beringia.com/teacher-materials/classroom-materials

This bone was found in the wetlands near the Yukon River. Can you guess what animal it belonged to?

This specimen also shows signs of decay, making it an excellent sample for skeletal taphonomy, the study of what happens to bones after death. The wear and weathering on this bone can tell the story of the journey from living animal to fossil.

We'd love to hear your guesses for what creature this bone came from in the comments!

This morning, our Education Team had the opportunity to visit our friends at Paleontology and Archaeology for a behind-the-scenes learning experience.

A huge thank you goes out to Christian Thomas and Elizabeth Hall for showing us around, sharing their expansive knowledge, and answering our questions.

We had a great time learning more about Yukon fossils and artifacts, and our team is already hard at work taking what they learned and integrating it into educational programming.
