Hello, my name is Vinnie Scott (he/him), and I am the new Museum Assistant this summer at the City of Waterloo Museum. The position is being supported by a grant from Young Canada Works to build careers in Heritage organizations. I look forward to being able to assist in making history accessible and engaging for Waterloo’s community, and those who visit. I have always had a deep appreciation for museums especially their ability to educate people in creative ways about there past while also being informative.
Recently, I just completed my second year at the University of Guelph as a history major, where I immersed myself in historical contexts, and developed further critical thinking skills pertaining to the study of history.
During my time at the museum this summer I will be transitioning Seagram Museum archival material received from the University of Waterloo into the museum’s collection. This is a very exciting project as it reunites the artifacts and archives of the former Seagram’s Museum. Some may remember the Seagram Museum when it was on Erb and Caroline Streets in Uptown Waterloo.
Through my short time with the collection, I have grown a strong interest with the history of the Seagram distillery, and it’s ties to the City of Waterloo. I am constantly learning and growing more intrigued everyday, and I am excited to be apart of this process.
I look forward to sharing my progress, interesting finds, and general excitement with you all this summer. If anyone has any stories relating to the Seagram Distillery please feel free to comment about them as I would be very interested to read about them. Thank you!
