✨ TWO WORKS SELECTED | 2026 EMERGE

I’m very happy to share that two of my paintings have been selected for the 2026 Emerge Exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA):

🎨 Vancouver in Lingering Light

At first, these paintings capture two very different sides of Vancouver: the harbour resting beneath the last light of day, and Gastown glowing through reflections after the rain.

Yet both grew from the same impulse—to paint Vancouver not simply as a collection of familiar landmarks, but as an atmosphere shaped by colour, movement, and light.

In Vancouver in Lingering Light, layers of blue, violet, and warm gold soften the skyline as the harbour gathers the fading colours of evening.

In Steam Clock After the Rain, wet pavement becomes a mirror for gold, violet, and blue, while clouds of steam rise gently above the quiet street.

I’m grateful to have both works included in this international exhibition dedicated to supporting emerging artists. If you’re in Vancouver, I warmly invite you to experience them in person.

Meeting Emerald Lake — COLLECTED🔴

There are moments in plein air painting when the light changes everything.

As the evening sun touched the distant peaks, warm gold emerged against the violet-blue mountains and emerald water below.

I worked quickly, building the scene with expressive brushwork, luminous colour, and thick layers of paint, trying to hold onto that brief moment before the light disappeared.

While I was painting by the lake, Anna, visiting from Maine, stopped to watch and asked if she could take a few photos of me at work. After returning home, she reached out, sent me those photographs, and asked about the finished painting.

Now, Meeting Emerald Lake has been collected by Anna and will soon make its way from the Canadian Rockies to her home in Maine.

She wrote something that stayed with me: “I believe a big part of art is about bringing people together.”

I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes a painting begins with an encounter with a landscape — and ends by creating an unexpected connection between people.

This painting was selected for the 2024 Ten Squared Exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA).

In Cozy, afternoon light drifts through the window and settles gently across the sofa, while a cat rests quietly beside the bookshelf. Layers of gold, lilac, and ivory hold the softness of the fur, the warmth of the room, and the hush of an ordinary moment made precious.

More than a painting of a resting cat, Cozy is about the peace of simply being—when nothing needs to happen, nowhere needs to be reached, and time seems to pause for a while.

My heartfelt thanks to the collector who chose this small, quiet moment. May Cozy bring the same warmth and stillness to its new home. ✨

I’m delighted to share that Corridor of Time has been collected by an art collector in Hebei, China.

This painting was also selected for the 2026 September & October Curated Collection Exhibition, presented by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA).

When I began painting this tree-lined road, I was drawn to the sunlight scattered across the path. As the work developed, however, it was the inward-curving branches and canopy that held my attention. Together, they form a green passageway, quietly guiding the eye toward the distant light.

Sometimes, a road moves us not because we know where it leads, but because it makes us want to keep going.

Now, this path has found someone who will continue its story. My heartfelt thanks to the collector for choosing Corridor of Time. May its distant light always bring a sense of possibility to its new home. ✨

Earlier this year, this painting was selected for the 2026 Bloom Exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists and exhibited at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island.

The irises unfold through rich, flowing brushstrokes—unhurried and at ease. Their layered petals and luminous colours express a quiet kind of strength, where grace and vitality exist together.

It is wonderful to see this painting’s journey continue—from my studio to the gallery in Vancouver, and now across the Pacific to its new home in Chengdu.

Sometimes, a painting’s title takes on a deeper meaning as its story unfolds.

When I painted this luminous field, I was thinking not only about the richness of the land, but also about what comes after patience—the moment when quiet growth finally becomes abundance.

A sea of gold stretches toward the horizon as the sun sends waves of light across the sky. The landscape feels full, radiant, and alive: a celebration of everything that has gathered strength in silence and is now ready to be received.

To see Harvest collected during an autumn exhibition feels especially fitting. My sincere thanks to the collector who chose this painting, and to the Federation of Canadian Artists and Federation Gallery for creating the place where this connection could happen. ✨

Some paintings carry a story far beyond the moment they were painted.

On a morning in August, I set up my easel on the remote shore of San Josef Bay and began painting its iconic sea stacks. While I was working, June Hale stopped to watch the painting take shape.

What I didn’t know then was that June had been coming to San Josef Bay since 1979. For nearly half a century, this landscape had been part of her life. She told me she had been trying to capture the perfect image of the sea stacks to display in her home.
Before we parted, I gave her my card.

That same afternoon, she contacted me and asked to purchase the painting.

June later told me that this was the image she had been searching for — and that seeing me paint it there, in a place that meant so much to her, made it even more special.

I couldn’t have imagined a more meaningful home for this painting.

Sometimes plein air painting is about more than capturing a place. It’s about the people we meet there, the memories that place holds, and the unexpected connections that happen along the way.

🎨 COLLECTED — Awaiting

Some paintings quietly find the people they were meant for.

Awaiting has found its new home.

When the collector purchased it through my website, he left me this note:
″I saw this at Melo and came back to purchase, but it had moved. Happy to have found it again.″

Reading that genuinely made me smile.

This painting was about a quiet pause before something begins—a bench, evening light, and the feeling that possibility is just beyond the horizon. It seems it was waiting for the right person too.

❤️ Thank you, Karl, for giving Awaiting a new home. I hope it brings you the same sense of calm and quiet hope that inspired me while painting it.

Selected for the 2026 Small Exhibition! ✨

I’m happy to share that my painting Resonance has been selected for the 2026 Small Exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA).

🎨 Resonance

In this painting, reflections of trees, light, and water dissolve into colour, texture, and movement. What began as a landscape gradually became something more inward—a meeting point between what we see and what we feel.

Built with layered impasto and expressive brushwork, Resonance explores that moment when the world outside begins to echo something within us.

The Small Exhibition is Federation Gallery’s beloved annual showcase, bringing together hundreds of small-scale works across a wide range of subjects and styles. I’m very pleased to have Resonance included this year.
