Selected for the 2026 Small Exhibition! ✨

I’m happy to share that my painting Resonance has been selected for the 2026 Small Exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA).

🎨 Resonance
Oil on Canvas Panel, 14″ × 11″

In this painting, reflections of trees, light, and water dissolve into colour, texture, and movement. What began as a landscape gradually became something more inward—a meeting point between what we see and what we feel.

Built with layered impasto and expressive brushwork, Resonance explores that moment when the world outside begins to echo something within us.

The Small Exhibition is Federation Gallery’s beloved annual showcase, bringing together hundreds of small-scale works across a wide range of subjects and styles. I’m very pleased to have Resonance included this year.

Another Vancouver moment, now collected. 💛

I’m very happy to share that Evening Glow at Science World has been COLLECTED.

This painting came from one of my favourite moments in Vancouver—that brief transition when daylight begins to disappear, the city settles into deeper blues, and the last warm glow drifts across False Creek.

Science World may be one of Vancouver’s most recognizable landmarks, but what I wanted to paint was something quieter: the feeling of watching a familiar city change completely with the light.

From the gallery wall to a collector’s home. 💛

I’m delighted to share that Little Blue Ferry at Sunset has been collected through the Federation Gallery.

This painting began with one of those familiar Vancouver scenes I never get tired of—the little ferry crossing False Creek as the last warm light settles over the water. Something so ordinary can suddenly become extraordinary when the light is just right.

It was a special moment when the painting was selected for the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Window Gallery, and even more meaningful to see it find its collector through the exhibition.

🎨 Totem Poles at Sunset — COLLECTED
Original oil painting, 11″ × 14″

Totem Poles at Sunset was inspired by an evening on Burnaby Mountain—the sun dropping low behind the totem poles, long shadows stretching across the ground, and the whole landscape shifting from brilliant gold into the colours of evening.

What stayed with me was the contrast: the stillness and strength of the totem poles against light that was changing almost by the minute.

The painting was later invited to exhibit in the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Window Gallery, and I’m delighted that it has now been collected.

It’s always special to see a painting inspired by Vancouver connect with someone and begin a new chapter beyond my studio.

🎨 Golden Reflections at Lion Gate Bridge — COLLECTED

Every time I pass Lion Gate Bridge, I catch myself looking down at the water.

The bridge is always there, strong and familiar. But the reflections are never the same. A small change in the light, the tide, or the weather is enough to transform the entire harbour.

That’s what inspired this painting.

I was especially honoured that Golden Reflections at Lion Gate Bridge was invited to exhibit in the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Window Gallery.

Four Paintings. One Exhibition. ✨

Very happy to share that four of my paintings have been selected for the 2026 September & October Curated Collection Exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA):

• Afterimage, 11″x14″
• Burst of Light, 11″x14″
• Corridor of Time, 11″x14″
• Harvest, 11″x14″

What makes this selection especially meaningful to me is seeing four works with very different subjects and moods come together in the same exhibition—from fractured reflections and explosive light to a quiet tree-lined path and a field glowing at harvest.
Different scenes, but all connected by something I keep returning to in my work: light, colour, movement, and the emotions they carry.

A big thank you to the Federation of Canadian Artists for selecting these four works. I’m truly looking forward to seeing them together at Federation Gallery this fall.

When the City Glows
Dallas Deng Oil Paintings @ Melo Patisserie

For the past few months, I‘ve been exploring Vancouver through changing light.

From the quiet glow of Coal Harbour to the reflections beneath Lion Gate Bridge, from Science World at dusk to the familiar Little Blue Ferry, each painting began with a moment that lasted only a few minutes—but stayed with me much longer.

These works are now on view at Melo Patisserie in Vancouver.

If you’re in the neighbourhood, I hope you‘ll stop by, enjoy a coffee, and spend a little time with the paintings.

Sometimes a city tells its story best in the moments between day and night.

🎨 Starry Night at Canada Place ✨

Canada Place is probably one of the most photographed spots in Vancouver. So I thought—why paint it exactly the way everyone already knows it?

For this one, I let the night wander a little.

The sky swirls, the harbour catches bits of colour, and the familiar white sails glow against all that blue. It’s still Vancouver, just with reality loosened up a bit.

Sometimes it’s fun to let a familiar place become something slightly unexpected.

💛 And I’m delighted that Starry Night at Canada Place was invited to exhibit in the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Window Gallery.

The sun had already called it a day. The light hadn’t. :)

That’s the part of the evening I love—the few extra minutes when the sky still holds onto some colour, the water picks it up, and Vancouver seems to soften around the edges.

Nothing dramatic. No big sunset moment. Just that lingering glow before everything turns blue and the city moves into night.

Sometimes the best part of sunset is what comes just after it.

And I’m very pleased to share that Vancouver in Lingering Light was invited to exhibit in the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Window Gallery.💛

🎨 Steam Clock After the Rain

Gastown after the rain is a little messy—and I think that’s when it looks best.

Wet pavement, scattered reflections, cool evening air, and steam drifting from the clock… everything feels a bit softer and more alive once the rain stops.

For this painting, I didn’t want to tidy the scene up too much. I liked the broken reflections, the damp streets, and that slightly moody Vancouver feeling. ☔️

And some good news: Steam Clock After the Rain was invited to exhibit in the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Window Gallery. Very happy to see this rainy little piece of Gastown included.

Vancouver rain has its advantages after all. :)
