Meet our eagle!
A local chainsaw artist carved this large eagle during our 30th Anniversary Celebration in June 2025.
Why an eagle? Because one lives near the Museum and can often be spotted from our windows. Now, we have our own eagle watching over the Museum!

It’s , and this week’s colour is indigo!
Our indigo picks come from the Museum’s Glass Collection.
Artifact #65.126.7 is part of a collection of nine small bottles containing glassmaking chemicals. Notice the indigo-coloured one; it was used to produce purple glass bottles. A handwritten label states, “This bottle was made in 1912 at Trenton, N.S.” The headmaster of Kings Collegiate School in Windsor, NS, found the bottle in the school's laboratory in 1965 and later donated it to the Museum.
In the second photo, can you spot the purple bottle in the centre? It’s a Whelan & Ferguson aerated water bottle. These bottles were used for beverages including ginger ale, lemonade, soda water, ginger beer and other aerated waters, as well as specialty drinks such as Jersey Cream, apple julep and orange julep.

Look who’s travelling to the Museum of Industry!
Our parking lot has been busy with RVs and travel trailers. We spotted visitors from Texas, Ohio, Colorado, Connecticut, North Carolina and Quebec, PEI, and that's just from a quick look at a few licence plates!
It’s always exciting to see how far people travel to explore the Museum and discover Nova Scotia’s industrial story.
Travelling by RV or with a large trailer? There’s plenty of room to park!

Join us for a painting workshop with local artist, Ashley Farrell at the Museum of Industry !

Ashley will be guiding participants to paint sunflowers outside (weather permitting) in the Museum courtyard. Be inspired by this lovely fall flower!

All materials will be provided.

Funds raised through ticket sales will go back into programming in the community. Thank you to the Museum for supporting this event.

It’s and this week’s colour is blue!
Our blue pick is something sweet: blueberry boxes from Oxford, Nova Scotia.
Known as the Blueberry Capital of Canada, Oxford has been at the heart of Nova Scotia’s large-scale lowbush blueberry industry since the 1940s.
Our collection includes this round wooden blueberry box, dating to around 1918, as well as an Oxford Frozen Foods Ltd. box. These simple containers are a reminder of how an important Nova Scotia industry grew from local roots.

Tiny pin. Powerful message.
This small gold pin, featuring a caged canary, was given to members of the Westray Families Group during the campaign to pass Bill C-45, following the 1992 Westray Mine disaster.
The 26 miners who lost their lives at the Plymouth, NS mine were remembered through these pins. Bill C-45 made employers and managers criminally responsible for failing to protect workers. The bill became law in 2004.
The canary recalls the practice of taking caged birds into coal mines to detect lethal gases. Nova Scotia Museum Nova Scotia Culture

It's and this week's colour is green!
Our green pick is the Shopmobile, a travelling industrial arts classroom that brought hands-on learning to rural Nova Scotia schools in the 1940s and 1950s.
This Shopmobile also tells the story of Noel Johnston, the first Black graduate of the Provincial Normal College in Industrial Arts Instruction and Nova Scotia's first Black Industrial Arts teacher. Driving Shopmobile No. 5, Noel brought woodworking and metalworking education to students in communities including East Preston, North Preston, Cherry Brook, Beechville, Upper Hammonds Plains, and Lucasville.
He later drove Shopmobile No. 3 until 1964. This Shopmobile, restored in the early 1990s, is now on display at the Museum of Industry, a lasting reminder of innovation, education, and a pioneer who helped open doors for future generations. Nova Scotia Museum Nova Scotia Culture
