Please note the change of venue for the Festival of the Tartans Opening Ceremonies tonight.

Please share this info with all who you think will be interested that our new rain venue is Glasgow Square Theatre. It was a difficult call to move our Opening Ceremonies, Free Concert and Crowning of the Skye Queen indoors but after checking with two very reliable and detailed weather sources we made the call. As we all know Mother Nature can and does change her mind but we made this decision in the interests and safety of all involved, including the audience based on the information we received and researched. Please join us for what provmises to be a great evening of friendship, music, talent, fun and community spirit in a beautiful theatre setting! Everyone is welcome. Calling all history buffs, genealogy enthusiasts, and anyone curious about their Scottish roots!

The Festival of the Tartans is bringing together an outstanding lineup of historians and genealogy experts for an afternoon of fascinating stories, discoveries, and local heritage on Saturday, August 15.

One of our featured presenters is local historian John Ashton, who will present Scottish Soldiers to Pictou County at 2:30 p.m. His engaging presentation explores the remarkable contributions of Scottish soldiers and the lasting impact they had on the history of Pictou County. Thank you to John for sharing this beautiful poster highlighting his presentation! How interesting that the names of the soldiers have some of the same last names as our current festival committee members.

The afternoon also features presentations and workshops by Susan Parker, Veronica MacIsaac, Dr. James Lees, and Rebecca Lees, offering something for everyone—from seasoned family historians to those just beginning their genealogy journey.

Pictou celebrates Natal Day TODAY!!

A full afternoon of fun, entertainment, and community spirit in Pictou. From live music and family-friendly activities to fire truck displays with Fire Departments from around Pictou County. Enjoy a BBQ fundraiser, local vendors, and more, there's something for everyone.

Live music begins at 1pm at the Love Local Vendors Village under the big tent plus an evening performance at the marina boardwalk stage at 6pm. The fire truck show will begin at 3pm.

Bring your friends and family and come celebrate with us. We can't wait to see you there!

The Festival of the Tartans is proud to present A Gaelic Morning through a series of Gaelic Workshops on the morning of Saturday, August 15 at the Scott W. Weeks Sports Complex. Whether you are a fluent Gaelic speaker or just learning for the first time all are welcome!

There are both children’s and adult workshops with instructor by Robyn Carrigan. Robyn is a fifth-generation Maritime Gael, culture bearer and professional vocalist who brings the language of the Gaels alive through her teachings and performances.

Special guests will be Dr. Laurie Stanley Blackwell and Dr. Michael Linkletter who will read children’s stories in both English and Gaelic. Thank you to the Pictou Bee Press for sponsoring the Children’s Storytime!

Admission is $10 for one workshop or all four sessions for $20. This includes admission to other field activities. Children under 12 are admitted free and must be accompanied by an adult.
