Michael's Printshop is an artist-run print studio which provides professional fine art printmaking facilities for established and emerging artists. A lure for printmakers who crave a space in which to create art surrounded by the extraordinary natural landscape of the North Atlantic, the Printshop also attracts visuals artists who wish to explore printmaking as a new medium for the first time through workshops with local and visiting printmakers.

We are now accepting proposals for our new "Coastal Encounters" print collection!

From the Printshop’s beginnings in the outport of St. Michael’s to the bustling harbour in downtown St. John’s, artists from near and far have been drawn to the lands and waters of Newfoundland/ Ktaqmkuk for inspiration for their prints. Images of shorelines, rocky coasts, beaches, and harbours are frequently seen throughout St. Michael’s Printshop’s archive. Living in Newfoundland and Labrador, we are shaped by our diverse coastal experiences at the edge of the North Atlantic. As a fundraising initiative, St. Michael’s Printshop is inviting artists to submit a proposal to produce a limited edition of 15 prints to be included in a new thematic portfolio titled coastal encounters.

Join us on April 9th to welcome our new visiting artist Christina Kang!

Christina Kang (she/they) is a printmaker and illustrator living in western Massachusetts. She is a stationary store studio assistant and a member at Zea Mays Printmaking. She likes drawing gridded psychological landscapes, incomprehensible instructions, rebellious data points, and inanimate objects that demand autonomy. She has been a resident artist at Zea Mays Printmaking, Arrowmont, and Directangle Press. Selected awards include the Frogman’s graduate student and design scholarships, Zea Mays AIR Fellowship, and Arrowmont Diversity scholarship.

❄️Winter Wellness workshop!❄️

Hosted by Troy Mitchell, Printmaker and Mental Health Therapist.

Experience a refreshing shift in the way that you think out loud and nudge your creativity. The large studio space and guided conversation allows you to consider a singular focus: what makes you-you, and how creativity has (or hasn’t) given you a pathway for self-care.

You will learn introductory printmaking techniques (sketching, transfer, carving, inking, printing) while simultaneously noticing/practicing mindfulness. The beginning of each of the four sessions will have a unique wellness focus and guided discussion. What you are bringing and taking from each session will be top of mind for the hands-on component, and each session ends with a group reflection.

A creativity goal is much further than finishing with a print, it is the engaging in an activity which gives focus and personal fulfillment.
