🎭We’re continuing our journey through HOLD FAST Contemporary Arts Festival 2026 with our very first Featured Artist Workshop!

Led by Fred Schmidt-Arenales & Chelsea Dab Hilke, participants came together to create puppets that would later become part of their Art Crawl project, SOMETHING’S HAPPENING IN THE BATTERY (and there’s nothing you can do about it). The workshop offered both guided and self-guided making, giving participants the space to experiment, get creative, and build connections through art.

A huge thank you to , , and everyone who joined us and got their hands busy making! 🎨🧵 These masks and puppets eventually made their way into the streets for Art Crawl, and we can’t wait to share more from that day with you! 👀✨

August in 60 seconds!!

We started this month by deinstalling and installing a new round of exhibitions! We were so excited to open Ernest Boateng’s “Pop Your Collar” in the rOGUE Gallery, and our annual members’ exhibition “Fill Your Boots” in the Main Gallery.

Then all of a sudden it was HOLD FAST!! We have so many incredible photos from HOLD FAST to share with you all, and you acn trust that they are coming soon, but for now, here’s a sneak peak! Featuring photos by Ritche Perez, Daniel Griffin, and some from the EE/HF Team.

We hosted a Launch Party, Fancy Artist Talks, 4 incredible workshops, and our Art Crawl featuring 25 projects by our Featured Artists, Pop-Up artists, local community groups and partner organizations. Thanks to all of our volunteers, artists, staff, partners, and event attendees! HOLD FAST would not be possible without you!!

Stay tuned to see what’s coming up in September!

We’re taking a look back at where it all began! On August 12, we officially kicked off HOLD FAST Contemporary Arts Festival 2026 with an evening of music, readings, and connection at . 🎉💫

Our Launch Party brought together artists, writers, community members, and festival friends for an evening of celebration and an opportunity to meet some of our incredible Featured Artists. A huge thank you to Samuelle for setting the tone for the evening with her music and bringing such wonderful energy to the launch. Thank you to and our readers, Trudy Morgan-Cole and Bernardine Ann Teraz Stapleton, for sharing your words and work with us. It was such a pleasure to have your voices be part of our festival opening.

We’re just getting started with our festival memories. Stay tuned as we continue sharing moments from HOLD FAST 2026!

We’re officially starting to share some of the moments that made HOLD FAST Contemporary Arts Festival 2026 so special, and we couldn’t begin without celebrating the people who helped make it all happen: our incredible volunteers. ❤️

Before the festival began, we gathered for a volunteer orientation, and these photos are a mix of those first moments together and the many ways our volunteers showed up throughout festival week.

From gallery sitting during workshops and supporting our Launch Party and Fancy Artist Talks, to helping with installations and deinstallations, supporting artist pop-ups, and making sure attendees could navigate smoothly between festival locations, our volunteers truly did it all. And on Art Crawl day alone, we had a team of 25+ volunteers helping bring the day to life.

Your time, energy, care, and enthusiasm made such a difference. We are incredibly grateful to every person who showed up, lent a hand, and helped us create a welcoming festival for artists and our community. Thank you, volunteers! We couldn’t have done it without you.

Here's some more lovely photo documentation of Ernest Boateng's rOGUE Gallery exhibition, "POP YOUR COLLAR"! 🧑‍🏭

Ernest's documentary portraiture series began in Corner Brook, where he met with tradespeople and learned about their experiences. Now, he's expanding the project and searching for participants across the island, from Corner Brook all the way to St. John's! We're excited to share Ernest's call for participants so that this project can continue and grow. Read his full call for participants on the second slide, and reach out to him at [email protected] if you're interested!

"POP YOUR COLLAR" is on view during our open hours this week, Wednesday-Saturday from 12-5pm. The show is up until September 19th, so be sure to drop by for a visit before then!!
