Big Talent. Tiny Word Count. Meet Our Flash Fiction Winner.

A little story for you about a really little story as we highlight the finalists for our Flash Fiction award over the next 3 Sundays.

Winner Trudy Morgan-Cole followed the deliciously challenging prompt from Lisa Moore . It included a summer romance, a tense workplace, betrayal, an epiphany and 3 point-of-view shifts, all within a strict limit of just 500 words. That's roughly the equivalent of two pages in a book.

Trudy says it was all so specific that "I wasn't sure it would be possible."

Judges Aimee Wall and Jennifer May Newhook raved, saying Trudy's story was "tender, funny and beautifully observed".

Trudy's first-place win nets her $500. Congratulations!

You can read "Bonnie's Place" in July's issue of Riddle Fence. We're delighted that they partnered with us on this contest. Trudy will also be on stage at our festival in Eastport Aug 6th - 9th. Tickets will go on sale soon - keep watching here.

Trudy is the author of several well-loved historical fiction novels. Good news, fans: the next one is set in Ferryland in the 1650s, and will publish it this October.

Meanwhile, check out Trudy's audio drama podcast, Terra Arcana, which is streaming on all major podcast platforms.
