And that’s a wrap!
Our Sketch by the Shore series, led by artist Claire Domitric, has officially come to an end and what a success it was!
Thank you to all the artists who joined us throughout the summer to create, connect, and paint alongside our beautiful waterfront. We are so grateful to have such inspiring landscapes right here in our community and to share these creative moments in such a stunning setting.
A special thank you to Claire for guiding these sessions and helping bring art outdoors this summer. We can’t wait to see where we sketch next!

While the WKP Kennedy Gallery undergoes renovations this summer, we’re excited to continue bringing art into the community through Sketch by the Shore — a free outdoor drawing series celebrating North Bay’s beautiful waterfront and shoreline landscapes.

Enjoy summer on North Bay’s waterfront while developing your observational drawing skills in the great outdoors. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, these guided sessions offer a unique opportunity to connect with nature, build confidence, and create alongside others in a supportive environment. This series focuses on the beauty and tranquility of the natural environment, inviting participants to slow down, observe, and respond to the landscape through drawing.

Led by local artist and instructor Claire Domitric, each session explores foundational drawing, skills in a relaxed and welcoming group setting. Participants are encouraged to interpret the landscape in their own way through drawing, painting or mixed media.

Open to all ages and skill levels — from complete beginners to experienced artists — these drop-in sessions are free to attend.

Another successful Sketch in the City session is in the books!
This session took place at GD2GO, where our incredible life drawing model, Judy, was beautifully styled by Lynn, shop owner of Clothes Encounters.
Judy showcased multiple inspiring looks and poses throughout the evening, giving participants a wonderful variety of poses, textures, and fashion details to capture in their sketches.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for another creative morning of creativity, connection, and community.

We’ll be celebrating our All You Can Eat: Square Foot Show and Emergence & Alchemy exhibition with a Closing Reception on Friday, July 3 from 6–9 p.m!

We’re excited to share that four local restaurant owners have been invited to select awards for their favourite works of art, with one winner chosen from each menu category:

* The Moose — Drinks Award
* Himalayan Café — Starters Award
* The Block Public House — Entrée Award
* Opera Bakery Café — Dessert Award

We’ve also had a ballot box available throughout the exhibition for visitors to vote for their favourite artwork. The winner of our People’s Choice Award will also be announced during the closing reception.

In addition to the award announcements, we’ll have:

* Complimentary hors d’oeuvres from The Block Public House
* A cash bar
* Artist present on site to learn more about their artwork
* A drop-in collage table led by artist Annabelle Harvey

This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the exhibition and enjoy one last look at the gallery space before we begin our major renovations.

What a wonderful first Sketch in the City session!

A huge thank you to our partners at the City of North Bay, Opera Bakery Café, and Maison Khloe for helping bring this new community arts initiative to life.

While the rain may have redirected our plans from the patio to the gallery, it certainly didn’t dampen the creativity. Participants spent the morning sketching our inspiring model, Willow, beautifully styled by Shannon of Maison Khloe, while enjoying coffee and treats generously provided by Opera Bakery Café.

The talent and enthusiasm in the room were incredible. In fact, Shannon was so inspired by the artwork created during today’s session that a selection of sketches and illustrations will be professionally framed and displayed at Maison Khloe throughout the summer!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this first session and helped transform a rainy morning into a celebration of art, fashion, and community.

What a perfect way to kick off the weekend! We hope to see you on June 27th 10-12Noon for the next session!

“Emergence and Alchemy” is an introspective exhibition exploring healing, transformation, and self-discovery. Through artworks made with organic and recycled materials, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on love, grief, growth, and the beauty that can emerge from pain. Rooted in the artist’s personal journey of repair and resilience, the works bring together fragmented emotions, memories, and identities, encouraging viewers to embrace vulnerability, renewal, and our shared humanity.

About the Artist:
My name is Janette Woodrow, a multidisciplinary artist based in Sudbury, Ontario, with a deep affinity for textiles and beadwork. My practice is shaped by personal reflection and the quiet moments of softness that art allows me to explore. Through colour, texture, and movement, I create works that shift between fluidity and structure, mirroring emotion and inner experience.

I create because art reconnects me to my body and keeps me grounded within myself. It guides me through life with tenderness, care, and love — like a ballad, a dance, or a lifelong partnership.
