A sneak peek behind the scenes as we put the finishing touches on Graphic Uprising: When Posters Became Protest.

This thought-provoking exhibition explores the powerful visual culture that emerged around the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, when artists, activists, and communities transformed posters into instruments of dialogue, dissent, and social commentary.

In recognition of Indigenous History Month, Bloch Bauers Gallery of Fine Art is pleased to present a remarkable new addition to the gallery's collection by renowned Inuit master carver ᑐᓄ ᓴᑭ (Toono Sharky).

Day Light Owl is a commanding sculpture measuring 22 inches in height and 19 inches in width, expertly carved from rich Bahamas green stone and accented with ivory eyes. Powerful yet elegant, the work reflects the exceptional craftsmanship and artistic vision for which Toono Sharky is celebrated.

While photographs offer a glimpse, they simply do not do this sculpture justice. The depth of the carving, the movement within the stone, and the striking presence of the owl can only be fully appreciated in person.

We invite you to visit the gallery and experience this extraordinary work firsthand as we celebrate the enduring legacy and artistic achievements of Inuit artists during Indigenous History Month.

Today marks the anniversary of one of the most extraordinary moments in Canadian history.

On May 28, 1934, the Dionne Quintuplets, Yvonne, Annette, Cécile, Émilie, and Marie, were born near Corbeil, just outside of Callander, Ontario, becoming the first quintuplets in the world known to survive infancy. Their birth captured international attention and transformed a small Northern Ontario community into a place recognized around the globe.

This framed vintage 1936 advertising calendar and print reflects the immense cultural phenomenon that followed. Produced during the height of worldwide fascination surrounding the sisters, pieces like this were distributed across Canada as promotional memorabilia and quickly became woven into Canadian popular culture during the Great Depression.

Today, artifacts like this stand as more than vintage advertising. They are historical reminders of a remarkable and deeply complex chapter in Canadian history, tied to fame, tourism, media, and Northern Ontario identity.

A rare surviving piece of Ontario history.

Available to view at Bloch Bauers Gallery of Fine Art.

There are paintings that simply depict a landscape, and then there are paintings like this, where the water seems to move before your eyes and the cold Northern air almost reaches through the frame.

In Spring Break, Kevin Hoffman captures a fleeting moment along the North Bay waterfront as winter slowly surrenders to spring. The fractured shoreline ice, shifting water, and sweeping sky create a scene so alive with movement and atmosphere that you can almost hear the waves pushing against the rocks.

Kevin’s mastery of watercolour allows the painting to breathe with light, motion, and realism while still holding the softness and emotion that make the medium so timeless. It is not simply a painting of Northern Ontario; it feels like standing there yourself.

“Spring Break” beautifully captures the changing season along North Bay’s waterfront, that fleeting Northern moment when winter slowly loosens its grip and the shoreline begins to awaken once again.

Working in his signature realistic yet atmospheric watercolour style, Kevin Hoffman transforms a familiar local scene into something timeless and reflective. The fractured shoreline ice, soft spring sky, and quiet expanse of water evoke both the resilience and beauty of Northern Ontario’s landscape. There is a calm honesty in the painting that speaks deeply to anyone who has experienced the changing seasons in the North.
