Yesterday I delivered this Woodland style Lego/building block mural to Louise Riley Library in Calgary. It is entitled โ€œBimitigweyaaโ€. This mural pays homage to the role that the Bow River played in my mental health, particularly during pandemic times as I entered my journey as a single mother. There are 50 base plates and an estimated 30,000+ pieces.

This Motherโ€™s Day, ๐—™๐˜‚๐—น๐—น ๐—–๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฟ๐˜ is honoured to feature ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฐ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐—ฑ, one of Canadaโ€™s most celebrated Indigenous Woodland artists.

Born in 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Simone McLeod is an Ojibwe artist and a member of Pasqua First Nation in Saskatchewan. From an early age, she explored pencil, ink, charcoal, and pastels, developing a passion for portraits and wildlife before later embracing painting as her primary medium. Her work is deeply rooted in Indigenous storytelling, emotion, culture, and connection.

โ€œ๐™ˆ๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™งโ€™๐™จ ๐™‡๐™ค๐™ซ๐™šโ€ is a beautiful 14x14 inch acrylic painting on canvas that captures the enduring strength and unconditional love of mothers. ๐Ÿ’ Whether they are with us today or watching from afar, a motherโ€™s love remains a constant source of warmth, guidance, and comfort. This meaningful piece serves as a heartfelt reminder that their love transcends time and remains forever present in our hearts.

Let us honour the ๐’๐’๐’—๐’†, ๐’˜๐’Š๐’”๐’…๐’๐’Ž, and guidance passed down through generations and reflect on the powerful legacy mothers leave behind. ๐ŸŒท
