work begins in a kind of hostile desert, where the human being must constantly learn to understand the world, others, and the self. Her pieces live in the tension between control and instinct, between the rules of civil society and the impulses that remain hidden but never disappear.
She creates small-scale works in charcoal on raw fabric that feel intimate yet unsettled, inviting close looking without offering easy answers.

Based in Montreal and originally from Saguenay, Jean’s practice moves between oil painting, sculpture, and installation, drawing on folklore, memory, and the tensions of human relationships.

We spent time in studio recently, and it left a quiet impression. There is a subtle tension in her work between play and seriousness, tenderness and structure. This Wednesday, Croyds will share a selection of images from the visit, photographed by Gabriel Neamtu.

Revisiting moments from our studio visit with

It’s been especially encouraging to see the recent works she’s been sharing online , paintings that continue to push her visual language further through colour, texture, and psychological depth. There’s a clear sense of evolution in the work while remaining grounded in the themes that define her practice.

Definitely an artist to keep an eye on.

A look back at one of our early conversations.

In 2018, we sat down with Montreal-based artist Eric Braün to understand the foundations of his practice from an early fascination with comic strips to a way of working that resists predictability. As co-founder of Usine 106u, his approach also reflects a broader commitment to making art more accessible, dismantling the usual barriers between artists and the public.

These conversations remain a way for us to engage with the community and trace the ideas that shape it over time.

From a studio visit late last year with , captured by .shotsmtl .

As always I’m accompanied by a local photographer to document these moments. Here, Edmund quietly captures what unfolds in the space.

Known for his larger than life portraits, it was a rare chance to spend time with a selection of small scale works. Alongside that, we got to see him at work on a larger piece, power tools in hand.
